Fort names science fair winners (04/20/06)

Fort Recovery Middle School held its annual science fair on April 4.
Sixth graders completed scientific research projects, while seventh-graders created their own inventions for the “Invention Convention.” Eighth-graders paired up for the “Consumer Fair,” in which they compared and contrasted two similar consumer products.
In sixth grade, Rebecca Tobe won Best Display for her project about “Dairy Farming,” Christen Wendel won Best Speech for her project entitled “Biodiesel,” and Nicole Siefring was awarded Best Overall Project and Speech for her project, “Diabetes.”
In seventh grade, Best Display went to Colton Metzger and Michael Cotterman for their invention “Multi-Habitat.” Holly Brunswick and Haley Wilson were awarded Most Creative Invention for their “Krumb Katcher” and Elliot Post won Best Overall Invention and Speech for his “Snow Remover.”
In eighth grade, the Outstanding Presentation award went to Lindsay Fullenkamp and Emily Bauer for their comparison, “Ziploc vs. Generic.” The award for Most Creative Display went to Mallory Wood and Emily Link for their project “Drano vs. Liquid-Plumr.”
Honorable mentions for presentation went to Josh Wendel and Nathan Wendel for “Yamaha vs. Polaris” and to Ryan Gray and Jacob Backs for “CD Player vs. MP3 Player.”
Honorable mentions for display went to Amber Heitkamp and Kelsey Brockman for “Huggies vs. Luvs” and to Alyssa Brackman and Sherrie Schoenlein for “Crest vs. Oral B.”
Fort Showcase
Fort Recovery High School will have its third annual Fort Showcase tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the high school. Students will display works of art, literature and industrial projects. Visitors may bid on items and there will also be a people’s choice award.
FFA Banquet
The Jay County Annual FFA Parent-Member Banquet and Auction was held recently. Walter Heidegger was inducted into the Ag Hall of Fame and made an honorary member of the Jay County FFA.
Also a scholarship of $2,000 was given to Valerey Muhlenkamp and $1,000 to Trent Muhlenkamp.
More than $33,000 was donated to the Job Opportunity Auction, where students work eight hours learning about career fields and receive a donation.
Open mic night
The Creative Arts Council and Friends of the Library will present Open Mic Poetry Reading on Monday, April 24, at 7 p.m. at the Bohemian Bean Coffeehouse, 119 S. Main Street, Bluffton.
The poetry must be original and not yet shared at the coffeehouse. Free coffee and a snack will be given to the audience.
Dean’s list
Ivy Tech State College East Central Region recently announced its dean’s list for the fall of 2005.
