Fort nears record (05/03/04)

FRHS Softball

It looks as if the record is going to fall again.

The Fort Recovery softball team, which has set school records for wins in each of the last three seasons, is poised to do so again. The Indians defeated the Memorial (St. Mary’s) Roughriders 7-6 and 8-2 in double-header action Saturday to improve to 13-5 on the season.

The school record of 15 wins was set on the final day of the year last season. The Tribe still has seven regular-season games, a possible make-up game against Jay County and at least one sectional contest left this year.

Joscie Kaup led a giant comeback in the first game after the Indians trailed 6-1 with just two innings to play. She finished 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base as Fort Recovery scored three runs in each of the last two innings to come away with the win.

Ciera Rammel went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and a stolen base. Krystal Rammel doubled, drove in two runs and scored once.

Julie Smith and Renee Evers each added two hits and one RBI in the contest.

Alyssa Tobe improved to 5-3 thanks to the comeback win, allowing three runs on nine hits. She struck out three and walked three.

Krystal Rammel led the group of four players with two hits apiece as the Tribe scored four times in the fourth inning and three in the fifth to take control of game two. She doubled, scored twice, drove in a run and stole a base in the six-run victory.

Evers finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Kaup had two hits, one run and one steal, and Tobe notched two hits and an RBI.

Tiera Judy also scored a couple of runs.

Smith grabbed the game-two win, improving to 8-2 as she allowed just one run on four hits. She struck out seven and walked two.

The Indians will try to take the next step toward the school record when they host Parkway Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Fort JV crushed

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity softball team missed a chance to pull to .500 on the season Saturday with a 19-4 loss to Memorial.

The Tribe trailed 13-0 before getting on the board with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. It scored once in the fourth, but allowed five more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth in the defeat.

Kristen Schwieterman was the lone Indian to post a pair of hits in the game. She finished 2-for-2 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base.

Sam Staugler doubled in her only official at-bat, and added a run and a steal. Jill Wehrkamp had two RBIs, and Sandra Sudhoff scored once and drove in a run.

Tiff Gaerke suffered the defeat as she started and lasted 21/3 innings. She struck out two batters.[[In-content Ad]]
