FORT RECOVERY — From a pool of 30 applicants, David Warvel was unanimously selected to serve as the new principal at Fort Recovery High School.
Warvel, currently the assistant principal and curriculum director for Marion Local Schools in Maria Stein, Ohio, was hired this morning to a two-year contract effective Aug. 1 by the Fort Recovery School Board.
The board also approved a per diem payment plan on an as-needed basis effective May 31 through July 31. The plan calls for Warvel to be paid $250 per day, up to 20 days, for training and orientation.
“What really stands out is his focus on teaching and learning and his use of data to facilitate teaching and learning,” said superintendent David Riel, who headed a committee of 20 students, parents, administrators, teachers, community members and support staff which unanimously recommended Warvel.
A native of Darke County, Ohio, Warvel, 31, received his degree in elementary education from Anderson University and later attended Bowling Green State University to earn his master’s degree and administrative certification.
He spent six years teaching, most recently in Shelby County, before stepping into his current position at Marion Local, which he has held for two years.
Warvel said while his new position in Fort Recovery is a promotion, he already feels comfortable in his new surroundings.
“They are very comparable school districts,” said Warvel.
Though Warvel’s previous administrative position was at the K-8 building at Marion Local, Warvel said he assisted the high principal there and also coached junior varsity basketball at the high school level.
“You still make your decisions based on the kids,” said Warvel.
Warvel said he and his wife, also an educator who is not currently employed, will remain in their home in Fort Loramie, Ohio.
Warvel replaces FRHS principal Ed Snyder, who announced his retirement this spring after 15 years as principal and 30 years as an educator.[[In-content Ad]]
