Fort presenting play (04/22/08)
Taking Note
Fort Recovery Middle and High School will present the play "How To Tame The Wild, Wild West In A Dress" on Sunday, April 27, at 2 and 6 p.m. in the Elementary-Middle School Auditeria.
The play is a western comedy about a man who thinks he inherited a saloon, when it is actually a salon.
Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for students and will be sold at the door.
Grand champion
John, Greg, Brad and Daniel Fisher of Fisher Packing Co. in Portland, recently attended the Indiana Meat Packers and Processors Association annual convention held in West Lafayette.
They entered the Hoosier Cured Meat Show at the convention and received the grand champion award for their hot dogs. There were 129 products entered in the show and judged on flavor and workmanship.
New officers
The Ladies Auxiliary of Golder-Pottkotter Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6515 in Fort Recovery recently elected new officers.
Sheila Bias is president; Pam Myers is senior vice president; Nancy Wendall is junior vice president; Kim Harrison is secretary; Marceil Alig is conductress; Ann Ridgeway is guard; Donna Bozarth is treasurer and patriotic instructor; Felicia Holmes is three-year trustee; Kim Harrison is second-year trustee; and Elaine Brunswick is one-year trustee.
Citizen of the year
Mary Fields was named Citizen of the Year at the annual Geneva Chamber of Commerce meeting and was awarded a plaque. Fields is co-owner and co-operator of M & M Market in Geneva.
Healthy habits
The Fort Recovery Family Career and Community Leaders of America members recently taught Fort Recovery Elementary School second graders how eating healthy can be fun by presenting the program "Rock on to a Healthier Lifestyle."
The program included six stations the students could visit and learn about exercise, the food pyramid and eating healthy.
Arts Place
MusicWorks students will perform in the annual ensemble concert and recital at Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut St. in Portland in May.
Ensembles will perform on Friday, May 9, at 7 p.m. Ensembles will include performances by Eastern Breeze Flute Ensemble, East Walnut Street Strings, Brassissimo! Brass Ensemble, Distant Thunder and Distant Rumble Percussion Ensembles.
Individual MusicWorks students will perform on Saturday, May 10. String and guitar is at 10 a.m.; voice and piano is at 12"30 p.m. and woodwind, brass and percussion is at 3 p.m.
The Stateline Singers Youth Choir will perform on Tuesday, May 20, at 7 p.m.
All performances are free.

Arts in the Parks program provides workshops introducing young people to visual and performing arts experiences in Adams, Blackford and Jay Counties.
Classes begin June 9 and continue through Aug. 1 for students age seven and older who have completed first grade. Daytime classes are $5 each or $20 for unlimited classes.
