Fort Recovery girls defeat Union City (12/17/04)

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s eighth grade girls basketball team was so far ahead it didn’t need to score in the fourth quarter. The seventh graders were so dominant defensively, they really only needed to score once.
The eighth grade team held off Union City Thursday for a 27-23 victory while the seventh grade squad pitched a shutout for a 25-0 win.
The Tribe eighth graders (5-0) built a 27-10 lead after three quarters and were able to hold on despite going without a hoop in the fourth.
They were led by Anne Koesters and Kinsey Wenning with six points apiece.
Joanna Snyder added five points, and Kelsey Wuebker scored four.
Fort Recovery’s seventh graders cruised to 5-0 with nine points from Nicole Pottkotter and five rebounds by Lauren Staugler. Emily May, Kelsey Brockman and Josie Guggenbiller each added four points.

MINSTER, Ohio — The Minster Wildcat junior high boys basketball teams grabbed early leads in both games Thursday in a pair of victories over Fort Recovery. The Tribe eighth graders lost 35-18, and the seventh grade team fell 31-24.
The Indian eighth graders managed just two points in the first and third quarters, and Minster pulled away in the fourth. Toby Metzger and Wes Kahlig each had eight points for Fort Recovery.
Fort Recovery’s seventh grade team fell behind 10-5 in the first quarter. It cut the lead to four points at the half, but couldn’t pull off a comeback.
