Fort Recovery girls ranked 10th

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Indians are among the best teams in the state again.
Fort Recovery’s girls basketball team debuted at No. 10 in the first Division IV Associated Press high school girls basketball poll of the season released Tuesday. The Tribe was unranked in Division III throughout the 2010-11 season, but made the state final four before falling to eventual state champion Anna.
The Indians (8-1) earned 55 poll points this week, finishing one behind No. 9 Rosecrans (8-2). Reedsville Eastern finished 11th in the poll with 48 points.
Ottoville (11-0) topped the Division IV poll with nine first-place votes and 177 points. Newark Catholic (12-0) was second with 154.
FRHS was the only Midwest Athletic Conference school to make the top 10. Marion Local and St. John’s finished 12th and 18th respectively in the Division IV voting, and Versailles was 14th in Division III.

Wanner leads Stars
WOODBURN — South Adams’ boys basketball team came back in the fourth quarter to eke out a 67-66 victory Tuesday over the host Woodlan Warriors in the opening round of the Allen County Athletic Conference Tournament.
Dustin Wanner lit up Woodlan (3-9), hitting three 3-pointers and going 6-of-6 at the foul line on the way to a 27-point effort. He also had nine rebounds, five assists and two steals for the Starfires (4-7), who trailed 49-43 after three quarters.
Scott Hoeppner added 16 points as South Adams shot 52 percent from the field. Blake Fox added 12 points and five boards.
South Adams advances to play Leo (5-4) in the semifinal round of the tournament at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Thursday at 7:45 p.m.

SA girls eliminated
WOODBURN — A rough first half took the South Adams girls basketball team out of the Allen County Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday as they fell 58-41 on the road to the Woodlan Warriors.

The Starfires (3-12) couldn’t keep up with Woodlan (9-4) early, falling behind 30-16 at halftime. They shot just 30 percent for the game as they lost their third straight.
Dzejna Ahmetovic was the lone SAHS player in double figures, finishing with nine points. She also had a team-best nine rebounds.
Allison Amstutz and Lauren Smith followed with seven points apiece, and Sharon Balsiger had six points and five boards.
South Adams will get a 10-day break before playing Woodlan again, at home, on Jan. 21.

Fort stays perfect
RUSSIA, Ohio — It wasn’t easy, but the Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team stayed undefeated with a 39-37 victory Tuesday over the Russia Raiders. The Tribe seventh graders fell 42-19.
Chase Bruns tallied nine points as the eighth grade Indians ran their record to 8-0. Kyle Schroer and Darien Sheffer added seven points apiece.
Caleb Martin had six points for the FRMS seventh graders, who fell to 3-5. Jason Roessner scored four points.

Tribe girls split
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery eighth grade girls basketball team evened its record Tuesday with a 21-16 victory over the Coldwater Cavaliers. The seventh grade team lost 36-7.
Morgan Lennartz led a balanced scoring effort for the eighth grade squad as it improved to 5-5. Kendra Siefring and Caitlyn Huelskamp each added four points.
Jocie Kaiser finished with four points for the Tribe seventh graders (5-5), who were shut out in the opening quarter. Devin Post scored three points.[[In-content Ad]]
