PITSBURG, Ohio — The Indians stopped the losing streak before it could begin. They did it by ending their first-half scoring difficulties.

Fort Recovery’s girls basketball team racked up 34 points in the first half Tuesday on the way to a 60-35 beating of the Franklin Monroe Jets.

The Tribe (5-3) had lost two games in a row, shooting worse the 25 percent in the first half against Wapakoneta and Minster. It shot 44 percent in the opening half against the Jets (6-3), outscoring the them 19-4 in the second quarter to build a 21-point lead at the intermission.

Krystal Rammel and Vicki Roessner paced some balanced scoring by Fort Recovery with 10 points apiece. Rammel went 4-of-4 from the field and finished with six rebounds and two blocks as well.

Tiff Gaerke and Sara Fortkamp each scored nine points, and Holly Stein added eight.

Stein and Gaerke grabbed seven rebounds, and Kelsie Will matched Rammel’s six as the Indians earned a 38-29 advantage on the glass.

Ciera Rammel had five steals, Stein added four and Will dished out four assists.

Abbey Davenport scored 13 points for Franklin Monroe, but also had 12 of her team’s 28 turnovers. The Indians turned the ball over just 15 times.

Courtney Oswalt added eight points and six rebounds for the Jets, who made 5-of-11 3-pointers but shot just 27 percent overall.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also rolled to victory over Franklin Monroe Tuesday, 65-16.

The Indians built an 18-3 lead after one quarter, and scored in double digits in every quarter. The Jets never managed more than five points in a quarter.

Jill Pottkotter led an outstanding shooting effort for the Tribe, which went for 68 percent in the second half and 54 percent overall. She was 8-of-10 from the field, finishing with 18 points and seven rebounds.

Sam Staugler wasn’t far behind, going 7-of-10 from the field as she posted 16 points and six rebounds. Val Fortkamp also reached double figures with 13 points, and added team highs of seven steals and five assists.

Junior high

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s eighth grade team got a big first quarter and never trailed as it stayed perfect with a 33-18 victory over St. Mary’s Tuesday. The seventh grade team stayed right with St. Mary’s, but was on the short end each time the buzzer sounded in a 25-21 defeat.

The Tribe eighth graders shut out St. Mary’s in the first quarter while scoring eight points of their own as they stayed perfect at 6-0. The finished off the victory with an 11-3 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Kinsey Wenning paced the Indians with eight points. Joanna Snyder had seven points and Anne Koesters added six.

Kelsey Wuebker and Betsy Tobe each scored four points.

Fort Recovery’s seventh grade team (5-1) was close all the way, but took its first loss of the season. It trailed by just one after the first quarter and at halftime, and by two at the end of the third quarter in the defeat.

Emily May scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Tribe. Kelsey Brockman had nine rebounds, and Josie Guggenbiller scored four points.[[In-content Ad]]
