Fort Recovery grad receives degree in mortuary science (06/25/04)
Taking note
Amy Rauh, a 2000 graduate of Fort Recovery High School, recently received a bachelor of Mortuary Science from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.
She was awarded the Ivan P. Bowsher award which exemplifies the art of restoration and the Harold W. Witmeyer award for exceptional advancement in the art of embalming.
Amy began serving her embalmers and funeral directors apprenticeship at Brockman and Boeckman Funeral Home in Fort Recovery this month.
She is the daughter of Ed and Karen Rauh, New Weston, Ohio.
DEGREES EARNED
Kristy M. Keller and Amy L. Klingshirn, both of Fort Recovery, received their masters in special education/intervention specialist degree from Wright State University Lake Campus.
Jason Wellman, a 2001 graduate of Jay County High School, received a bachelor of science degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from DeVry University in Columbus, Ohio in a June 20 ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in downtown Columbus.
He also received National Honor Society Honors and is a member of Tau Alpha Pi. Jason is employed at PK Controls in Dublin, Ohio, and is the son of Dennis and Cindy Wellman, Bryant. He is the grandson of Betty and Jerome Wellman, Bryant, and Orville and Alma Rauly, Coldwater, Ohio.
MUSEUM OPEN HOUSE
The Jay County Historical Museum will have an open house on Sunday, June 27, from 1 to 4 p.m.
School memorabilia from the collection of Cheryl Myers will be on display. Also on display will be seventeen scrapbooks of Portland High School sports statistics compiled by Alex Wasmuth, a former sports columnist for the Commercial Review.
The museum is located at 903 East Main Street, Portland, and admission is free.
GARDEN TOUR
The Preservation Society of Union City, Ind.-Ohio invites Jay County residents to a seven garden tour on Saturday, June 26, and Sunday, June 27, from noon to 6 p.m.
The “Wander Randolph County” tour will feature ponds, perennial plants, the latest in landscape edging and several glimpses of paradise.
The tour for Jay County residents begins at the home of Phil and Wendy Mathews, located at 105 N. George Street, Ridgeville. The backyard of the home features two small fish ponds.
Tickets are for sale at the Mathews home or the Antique Mall in Union City.
NEW SIGNS
Signs to identify stops for the New InterUrban vans are being installed in Jay County this summer. The New InterUrban is a public transit system open to people of all ages and fees are based on distance traveled.
The service recently added regular routes in Delaware County and has a new Connect&Go service in conjuction with the MITS (Muncie Indiana Transit System).
SENIOR GAMES
Senior Games will be held September 22-25 for ages 50 and over at the Muncie YWCA, 310 E. Charles St. The event is sponsored by LifeStream and cost is $10 a person and includes all events and meals.
