FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery Eels summer swim team improved to 2-0 Thursday with a 769-628 victory over the St. Henry Stingrays.
Gavin Thobe won the butterfly, breaststroke and individual medley for the Eels in the 8-and-younger boys division, while and Ava Bupb took the girls long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley. In the 13-14-year-old division, Cori Stone was first in the girls 200-yard freestyle, individual medley and butterfly and MacKinely Timmerman picked up victories in the individual medley, breaststroke and long freestyle.
Also winning three events apiece for Fort Recovery were Carley Stone, Cassidy Martin, and Marshall Hull. Double winners were Alexis Bubp, Andy Gray, Regan Martin and Jon Albers.
OHSAA adds two
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors voted Monday to approve expanding the boys and girls basketball regular-season schedules.
OHSAA member schools will be allowed to play 22 regular-season games, up from the current 20, beginning in 2012-13. The board approved the change by a 5-4 vote.
The board also approved a change to the tournament format for swimming. Beginning next season, the top two swimmers in each district will advance to the state finals along with 16 at-large selections.
Schwieterman leads
Aubrie Schwieterman powered Persimmon Ridge to a 14-13 victory Thursday over First Merchants Bank in Portland Junior League Rookie softball.
In Thursday’s other game, Loy Real Estate and Auction defeated Portland Optimist 10-8.
Schwieterman went 3-for-3 with three runs and a pair of RBIs to pace Persimmon Ridge. Maria Gross added three hits, two runs and an RBI.
Riley Brewster paced Loy with three hits, an RBI and a pair of runs.[[In-content Ad]]
