Fort Recovery loses to Redskins

FORT RECOVERY — The Indians led 1-0 and were tied with St. Henry on two different occasions, but they couldn’t keep up with the Redskins in the late innings.
Fort Recovery High School’s softball team flirted with its second win of the season Monday only to come up short in a 7-5 loss to St. Henry.
The Indians (1-7, 0-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) scored in the first inning, and the teams were tied at the end of the third, fourth and fifth. St. Henry (2-4, 1-0 MAC) scored twice in the sixth and seventh innings to take the lead and an FRHS rally in the bottom of the seventh fell two runs short.
Ashley Homan took the loss, giving up seven runs — two earned — on 10 hits. She struck out one batter.
Janelle Schwieterman finished 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Tribe JV suffers loss
RUSSIA, Ohio — Runs were at a premium Monday as the Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team suffered a 1-0, eight-inning loss to the Russia Raiders.
Russia scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning for a walk-off win. The defeat dropped the Indians to 2-3.
Nick Litmer went the distance for the Tribe and suffered the loss.
Fort Recovery got one hit apiece from Derek Backs, Jacob Westgerdes and Ray Siefring.

SA splits with Tigers
BERNE — South Adams Middle School’s girls track team rolled to an 82-27 win on its home track Monday over the Bluffton Tigers. The boys team fell, 73-36.
Caroline Kloepper won the sprints for the Starfire girls, taking the 100-meter dash in 13.4 seconds and the 200 dash in 29.9. Emma Rosswurm took the high jump at 4 feet, 9 inches, and the 200 hurdles in 35.84, and Olivia VonGunten earned victories with times of 2 minutes, 42.6 seconds in the 800 run and 5:54 in the 1,600 run.
Jared Grabau racked up three victories for the boys team in the 100 dash in 13.4, the 200 dash in 28.19 and the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches.
Other wins for SAMS came from Mayia Curtis, Calyssa Lehman, Addie Wanner and Nick Wurster.
