Fort Recovery softball gets third MAC victory (04/29/05)

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery softball team shared the Midwest Athletic Conference title for the first time in school history last season. They still have a chance to make it two in a row.
The Indians improved to 3-1 in the MAC and jumped over .500 overall Thursday with an 8-0 destruction of the Marion Local Flyers.
Five different Indians had two hits apiece as they scored in four of the first five innings. The Tribe (8-7) posted a run in the first, three in the second, two in the third and two in the fifth while Tiff Gaerke dominated the Marion Local lineup.
Gaerke improved to 3-1 on the season as she allowed just two hits while striking out nine batters. She also had an outstanding game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and three runs.
Kelsie Will finished with two hits and three RBIs, and Renee Evers had three hits, including a double. Sandra Sudhoff went 3-for-3 with a stolen base, Kristen Schwieterman had three hits and Megan Wenning drove in two runs.
Baseball goes hitless
MARIA STEIN, Ohio — Brad Fortkamp pitched well, but just didn’t have enough to keep up with a no-hitter. The Fort Recovery baseball team didn’t manage a single hit against the Marion Local Flyers Thursday, falling 2-0.
Fortkamp tossed five scoreless innings before allowing a pair of unearned runs in the sixth inning. He gave up just four hits and a walk while striking out four in 5 1/3 innings as he took the hard-luck loss.
The Indians (10-9, 2-3 Midwest Athletic Conference), who committed two errors, got their only base runners on walks by Bobby Rammel, Greg Faller and Dusty Tobe.
Flyers blank JV softball
MARIA STEIN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team couldn’t manage much offense against the Marion Local Flyers Thursday, garnering just two hits in a 7-0 loss.
Marion Local scored three first-inning runs to take control. Beth May took the loss, allowing four earned runs in four innings.
Jodi Tobe had one of the two hits for the Indians (4-9), and also stole a couple of bases. The only other hit came from Lori Osterholt.[[In-content Ad]]
