Fort Recovery still fifth

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Back-to-back wins kept the Indians stable.
Fort Recovery was ranked fifth for the second straight week in the Ohio high school boys basketball poll released Monday by The Associated Press.
The Indians (15-2). who defeat Marion Local Friday and Greenville Saturday, earned 137 poll points to finish 20 ahead of No. 6 Newark Catholic (15-2) and 32 behind fourth-ranked Richmond Heights (16-1). Berlin Hiland (17-0) got 22 out of 26 first-place votes and is No. 1 with 252 poll points ahead of Jackson Center (19-0) and Edgerton (17-0).
The only other Midwest Athletic Conference team ranked in the top 10 this week is Versailles, which came in at No. 9 in Division III.
Fort Recovery is also fifth in Division IV in the Freeman Ratings (www.freemanratings.com).

Jay places fourth
CONNERSVILLE — Katie Snyder placed second in three events Saturday as the Jay County gymnastics team finished fourth at the six-team Connersville Invitational.
The Patriots scored 99.7 points to finish behind No. 7 Columbus North (106.1), the host Spartans (103.925) and Noblesville (101.825).
Snyder posted her best score on the floor exercise, finishing as the runner-up with a 9.35. She was also second on the vault with a 9.3 and the uneven bars with an 8.9, and led JCHS with a fifth-place finish on the balance beam (8.5).
Tasya Smith was sixth on the bars with an 8.35, and added a 7.4 on the balance beam. Malarie Houck scored an 8.5 on the vault and an 8.25 on the floor.

Two earn honor
INDIANAPOLIS — Two members of the Jay County High Rollers high school bowling team earned awards this week from Indiana High School Bowling.
Ritchie Carducci and Colby Cline of Jay County were named to the IHSB Academic All-State team. The award goes to seniors who compete at the varsity level, earn a 3.5 grade point average or better and achieve a minimum score on the SAT or ACT.

Jay MS sets records
The Jay County middle school girls swimmers broke four team records in a 195-113 victory Monday over Adams Central, and the boys picked up their first win 141-61.
Anne Vormohr broke the 100-yard individual medley record held by her sister, Cori, with a time of 1 minute, 3.58 seconds. Sophie Bader surpassed her own mark in the 400 freestyle by more than three seconds in 4:21.39.
Vormohr, Sophie Bader and Alex Bader joined Ashley Mark for a record time of 2:00.04 in the 200 medley relay and teamed with Sydney Mathias for a record time of 2:54.27 in the 300 freestyle relay. Other wins for the team came from Mathias (100 backstroke and 200 freestyle), Jamie Valentine (100 breaststroke), Hannah Lykins (50 freestyle), Mark (100 freestyle) and Alex Bader (50 butterfly).
Sok Vormohr took first in the 200 and 400 freestyle for the boys team, and Conner Daniels won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Cody Moser was first in diving, Ian Reynolds took the 100 individual medley and Alex LeMaster topped the field in the 100 breaststroke.

WJ boys roll
DUNKIRK — West Jay Middle School’s sixth grade boys basketball team destroyed visiting Montpelier 49-3 Monday.
Connor Davis scored eight points as the Eagles improved to 8-2. Holton Hill, Garrett Rodgers and Jordan Stultz added six points apiece.
In the B team game, Tyler Lowe scored 10 points to lead WJMS to a 30-4 win.

Chiefs fall
The East Jay sixth grade boys basketball team suffered a 32-15 loss Monday to visiting R.J. Baskett (Gas City).
Ethan Myers finished with six points for the Chiefs. Angel Perez added four.
In the B team game, Zaaron Lee had seven points as EJMS fell 18-14.[[In-content Ad]]
