Fort Recovery wins 2 over ML (01/25/06)

FORT RECOVERY — The Marion Local Flyers couldn’t get off the ground against Fort Recovery.

The Indian eighth grade girls basketball team cruised to a 36-17 victory, and the seventh graders managed a 28-26 win. Both teams are now 7-3.

Nicole Pottkotter scored 17 points to lead the eighth grade team, which was up by 14 at the half. Chelsey Leuthold added nine points.

The seventh graders trailed by four at halftime, but outscored the Flyers 8-2 in the third quarter and held on for the victory. Kendra Brunswick had 10 points, and Nicole Dilworth scored five.

Wellman leads perfect EJ

HARTFORD CITY — Lindsey Wellman went on a scoring barrage as the East Jay eighth grade girls basketball team blistered Hartford City 51-17 Tuesday. The seventh graders didn’t let a scoreless first quarter get the best of them, bouncing back for a 36-20 victory.

The East Jay eighth graders, who are 12-0, pushed out to a 21-point halftime lead. Wellman scored more than half of the Chiefs’ points, 27, and Pazia Speed added 11.

Cara Garringer scored 10 points to lead the seventh grade Chiefs, who trailed 8-0 after the opening period. But they held Hartford City scoreless in the second quarter to take an 11-8 halftime lead, and were up by double digits after three periods. Brittany Manor added six points.

Fort crushes Tigers

ANSONIA, Ohio — The Ansonia Tigers had all kinds of problems scoring in a couple of losses to Fort Recovery. The Indian eighth graders held Ansonia scoreless in one quarter for a 49-25 win, and the seventh grade team did it twice to roll 38-10.

Fort Recovery’s eighth graders were up 22-16 at the half before outscoring the Tigers 19-0 in the third period. Greg Kahlig posted 14 points, and Cody Fiely finished with 13.

The seventh grade Indians kept Ansonia off the scoreboard in the first and third quarters, taking a 23-0 advantage during those periods. Craig Fortkamp led the way with 12 points, and John Homan added five.

EJ wrestlers blast Bruins

The East Jay wrestling team stacked up the victories Tuesday as it clobbered the Blackford Bruins 72-24.

Scoring wins for the Chiefs were Matt Segraves (80), Zac Somers (90), Heng Hong (95), Dyllan Derrickson (100), Justin Loper (105) and Hai Hong (110). Also picking up victories were D.J. Teeple (115), Nick Nuckols (125), Scott Houston (135), Nick Stephen (145), Dylan Hutzler (160) and Jake Boyer (175).[[In-content Ad]]
