Fort softball wins pair

FORT RECOVERY — The Indians took advantage of the break in the rain Saturday to bump their record back above .500.
Fort Recovery High School’s softball team swept a doubleheader 4-1 and 13-3 over the visiting Botkins Trojans.
The Tribe (8-7) blasted four home runs in the second game, including two by Taylor Guggenbiller. She finished with four RBIs and two runs.
Janelle Schwieterman added a home run, a double, a single, three RBIs and two runs, and Olivia Schwieterman also had three hits, including a homer, two runs and two RBIs.
In the opener, Shelby Brunswick led the way with a triple, a run and an RBI. Andi Sutter added a single, a run and an RBI.
Sutter earned both victories, allowing just one earned run in 13 innings. She struck out six batters in the opener.

SAHS netters fall
BERNE — South Adams’ girls tennis team slipped to 1-6 Saturday with a 3-2 loss to the visiting Fort Wayne South Side Archers.
Lindsey Graber and Kassy Potts earned the only contested victory for the Starfires, defeating Katelyn Meneely and Shelby Pequignot 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Alex Fox got the No. 2 singles victory by forfeit.
Aine O’Donnell lost 6-1, 6-0 to Norrene Mamani at No. 1 singles, and Abbi Campbell and Holly Taylor fell 6-4, 6-2 to Neenah Green and Sophie Schulz at No. 2 doubles. Mallory Eicher also lost at No. 3 singles.

FR baseball wins 2nd
BOTKINS — Fort Recovery picked up its second win of the year as it split a doubleheader with the Botkins Trojans, winning 11-1 and falling 8-5.
Chad Schroer led the Indians, who scored three times in the second and fifth innings of their victory, with two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Hayden Pottkotter had two hits and drive in four runs.

Kent Retz also had a pair of hits, and Ryan Gaerke scored three times.
Pottkotter earned the win for the Tribe (2-10), giving up one unearned run on three hits and a walk while striking out four.
Jacob Muhlenkamp took the loss, giving up three unearned runs Botkins scored five times in the second inning. Shane Pottkotter had a hit, a run and an RBI in the defeat.

Eastbrook tops Stars
MARION — The South Adams baseball team dropped both of its games Saturday, falling 10-9 and 10-7 to the host Eastbrook Panthers.
SAHS trailed 7-2 in the first game and 8-3 in the second before later rallies fell short. It scored five times in the final two innings of game one and four in the last two frames of game two.
Corey Seffernick and Blake Fox each had a double on the day for the Starfires.
Losing pitchers were Dustin Wanner and Nick Batt.

Indian JV splits
FORT LORAMIE, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s junior varsity softball team lost 8-5 to the Fort Loramie Redskins in their opening game Saturday, but won the second 7-5.
Maleia Fullenkamp and Melissa Lochtefeld each had two hits and two runs in the victory. Xaiven Overton added three hits, including a double and a triple, and scored once.
Ashley Homan got the win as she allowed five runs — three earned — on eight hits in seven innings.
Beca Tobe notched a single, a double and two runs in the game, and Fullenkamp had two hits and two RBIs. Tobe took the loss, allowing five runs — three earned — on seven hits and three walks.[[In-content Ad]]
