Fort spikers fight off MV

UNION CITY, Ohio — The Indians came up short in a couple of close games in their season opener. On Tuesday, they fought back from some game-two struggles to pick up their first win.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team evened its record at 1-1 Tuesday with a 25-12, 17-25, 25-22, 25-19 victory over the host Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks.
Sophomore setter Cassidy Rammel finished with 12 assists and five kills, and her classmate Tori Lennartz totaled six kills and six blocks. Kelsey Fiely, a senior, also had five kills.
Emily Link notched 13 service points, and Amy Link followed with nine. Hannah Kaup had eight digs.
FRHS dropped the junior varsity match 12-25, 25-21, 26-24. Kirsten Jutte had eight service points, eight assists and five kills.

Golf suffers loss
JEFFERSON, Ohio — Fort Recovery dropped to 4-8 Tuesday as it suffered a 163-197 loss to the host Memorial (St. Marys) Roughriders at Northmoor Golf Course.
Elijah Kahlig turned in the top score for the Indians as he parred four of the first seven holes. He finished with a 43.
Carter Bowman shot 38 to earn medalist honors for the Roughriders, who had five scores of 45 or better.
Fort Recovery’s Kent Retz had three pars and followed Kahlig with a 48. Chase Bruns and Derek Backs each shot 53.
The Tribe dropped the junior varsity match 204-233. Josh Pohl and Nick Lutmer each shot 56.

FRMS spikers lose
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery Middle School volleyball teams each forced a third game Tuesday, but suffered losses to the St. Henry Redskins. The eighth grade squad fell 25-13, 22-25, 25-18, and the seventh graders suffered a 25-16, 15-25, 26-24 defeat.
Devin Post finished with five kills, five service points, two assists and one block for the FRMS eighth graders (1-1). Renee Keuss had eight service points and Audra Metzger added seven.
Kiah Wendel totaled nine service points and one kill for the seventh grade squad (1-1). Grace Thien had eight service points and one kill.
