Fort students to travel to classes
chool students here will continue to travel to other schools this year for vocational classes.
School board members learned during Tuesday’s meeting that 10 seniors and 23 juniors will be taking classes at St. Marys, Coldwater and Celina high schools that are not offered at Fort Recovery High School. Classes include auto mechanics, office administration, medical, agriculture mechanics, construction, electronics, early childhood development, graphics, marketing and engineering, Dennis Ontrop, treasurer for Fort Recovery schools, said this morning.
The students either drive or are bused to the schools for these classes.
Agriculture production and agriculture business classes are offered at Fort Recovery. No students travel from other schools to attend these classes.
High school juniors and seniors also have the chance to take classes at Wright State University-Lake Campus in Celina for college credit. Ontrop said this morning that about 10 students plan to take college courses during the 2004-05 school year.
Also Tuesday, the board heard a report by middle school principal Ted Shuttleworth that the district’s 13 buses passed annual inspection by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
In other business, board members approved lunch prices and student fees for the coming school year.
Lunch prices of $1.50 for students in kindergarten through fifth grade and $1.75 for grades six through 12 remained the same, as well as the 25 cent price for milk. Adult lunches increased to $2.50 from $2.25.
Student fees all increased $2 for kindergarten to eight grade students.
Fees for kindergarten students increased to $36, in first through fifth grades, and fees for grades six through eight increased to $40.
In addition Tuesday, board members:
•Learned that non-professional district employees must now fill out a weekly time card. Previously, employees only filled a time card to submit any overtime hours worked, Ontrop said this morning.
•Heard elementary school principal Nancy Knapke explain the process used to hire new teachers.
•Heard high school principal Ed Snyder report school maintenance employees are painting the vocational agriculture classroom at the high school. He also reported that a new flag pole is being installed at the school, and the restrooms in the weight room at the high school are being renovated.
Ontrop didn’t have material cost estimates.
•Approved the transfer of $3,216.06 to the Title IV- A fund and $3,985.25 to the Title II- A Fund from the general fund.
•Approved the hiring for the 2004-05 school year of Nicole Kaiser as a third grade elementary teacher, Robert Leverette as the high school boys basketball reserve coach, Matthew Lingo as the high school boys basketball freshman coach, David Blockberger as the junior high boys basketball coach, Harold Fiely as the junior high boys basketball assistant coach, Mark Fenik as the weight room supervisor and Kathy Schwieterman as a part-time athletic trainer.[[In-content Ad]]
