Fort teachers reach new deal (12/11/03)
Agreement calls for 3 percent pay hike
FORT RECOVERY — Teachers and the school board here reached a new agreement that includes a salary increase and a new insurance plan at a board meeting on Tuesday.
The Fort Recovery School Board unanimously passed a three-year agreement with the Fort Recovery Education Association that will become effective on Aug. 1, 2004.
Included in the contract is a 3 percent annual raise for teachers and a new PPO insurance plan that was never previously offered in the self-insurance plan.
Within the insurance agreement, teachers will pay for 5 percent of the insurance costs.
In other action Tuesday, the board:
•Returned the following advances to the general fund: $35,000 from the access grant; $5,000 from the Title I fund; and $8,000 from the public preschool fund.
•Contracted with the Mercer County Health Department, with services of the public health nurses, from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2004. The cost will be $2,361.
•Elected board president Dan Kahlig as president pro-tem for the organizational meeting.
•Appointed board member Steve Wendel as the 2004 Student Achievement Liaison.
•Re-appointed Harold Fiely as Fort Recovery Local Schools representative on the Fort Recovery Park Board for a five-year term from Dec. 31, 2003 to Dec. 31, 2008.
•Made the following policy book changes as recommended by the policy committee and to comply with state of Ohio regulations: Amended the policy on student fund-raising activities; faculty/staff use of school facilities; community use of school facilities; field trips; full-time district enrollment or re-enrollment of students from home education/nonchartered Schools.
Adopted policy on relations with parent/community organizations; student surveys; disaster recovery plan.
•Hired Michael Thien and Donald Knapke as substitute bus drivers for the remainder of the 2003-04 school year.[[In-content Ad]]
