Fort's Kaup sets single-match record (09/01/07)

Collegiate Check-up

On the way to setting Syracuse's all-time record, Joscie Kaup went ahead and took care of the single-match mark as well.

Kaup, who spent the 2006 season writing her name all over the Orange record book, racked up a team-record 40 digs in the volleyball team's loss to Wisconsin-Milwaukee Aug. 25. She now stands just 55 digs from setting the Syracuse career record.

The 2004 Fort Recovery High School graduate had 81 digs in the Orange's first four matches of the season - the team went 2-2 - to give her 1,737 for her career.

The record of 1,791 was set by Rachel Watson in 1999.

Kaup had an ace and an assist in her record-breaking match at the University of Wisconsin's InnTowner Invitational. Her 40 digs broke the five-game match mark of 32 set by Watson in 1999, as well as the overall record of 38 set by Andrea Carson in 1992.

Also at the invitational, Kaup had 14 digs, three aces and an assist in a win over Gardner-Webb, and 13 digs in a loss to the 11th-ranked host Badgers. In the first home match of the year for the Orange, Kaup finished with 14 digs, two aces and two assists in a 30-18, 30-24, 30-21 triumph over Buffalo.

In addition to her single-match record and her chase for the career mark Kaup already owns the Syracuse marks for digs in a season (685), digs per game in a season (5.31) and digs per game in a career (4.4).

She also leads the Big East in kills this season with 5.4 per game.[[In-content Ad]]
