FORT RECOVERY — After winning every game in the first month of their season, the Indians are now in the midst of a month-long losing streak.
The Fort Recovery High School boys basketball team dropped its seventh straight game Saturday, falling 39-33 at home to the Greenville Green Wave. Their last victory came by a 41-31 score Jan. 14 over Coldwater.
The lineup for the Division IV boys basketball sectional tournament at Coldwater were announced Sunday, and Fort Recovery will meet Waynesfield-Goshen (3-14) in the opening round March 2 at 6:15 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to the sectional championship to take on top-seeded New Knoxville (14-3) March 4 at 6:15 p.m.
FRHS (9-8), which has defeated Waynesfield-Goshen 58-42 and lost to New Knoxville 62-47 this season, managed just three third-quarter points in Saturday’s defeat and were down by as many as 13 in the fourth. Freshman Elijah Kahlig hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points, but no other Indian scored more than five points.
Alec Byrkett paced Greenville (5-12) with nine points, and Dylan Onoz and Chase Albright each had eight.
In junior varsity action, Wyatt Blockberger scored 13 points and Alex Kaiser had 11 for Fort Recovery in a 51-45 victory.

Hull qualifies
LIMA, Ohio — Sophomore Marshall Hull earned a spot in the district meet with his effort at the swimming sectional tournament Saturday. Fort Recovery’s boys were eight out of 11 teams with 80 points while Shawnee finished first with 586.
Hull’s district-qualifying time came in the 100-yard butterfly as he finished 10th in 1 minute, 4.07 seconds. He was also 10th with a time of 1:05.84 in the 100 backstroke, and teamed with Lane Hull, Mitch Homan and Andy Gray for sixth in the 200 medley relay in 2:02.87.
Gray narrowly missed making the district cut as he finished 10th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.42. He added a time of 58.62 for 10th in the 100 freestyle.

Siefring leads
Kendra Siefring paced the seventh grade girls basketball team as it advanced in the Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament with a 28-21 victory at home Saturday over St. John’s. The eighth grade girls season came to an end with a 48-25 loss to Coldwater at Minster.
Siefring scored 11 points to pace the seventh grade Indians, who will play New Knoxville in the semifinal round of the tournament today.
Trisha Thien added eight points.
Tori Lennartz and Kara Jutte each had nine points for the eighth grade squad.

Boys fall
CELINA — The seventh grade boys basketball team lost 36-30 Saturday to Coldwater at the McKirnan Classic.
J.J. Overton had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Tribe, which plays again in the Classic Thursday at 4 p.m. Jackson Hobbs scored seven points.[[In-content Ad]]
