Fourth-ranked Squaws defeat JCHS

DECATUR — The Class 3A No. 4 Bellmont Squaws defeated the Jay County High School volleyball team 25-15, 25-8, 25-14 Thursday.
Mariah Hornaday had four kills for the Patriots (13-16), and Sierra Weatherhead came up with four digs. Hannah Ainsworth scored four points, and Maria Murphy totaled two kills and two blocks.
Also for JCHS, Megan May had three points, Randa Gillespie notched three digs and Tanner martin added two assists.
In the junior varsity match, Paige Lennartz had four digs, two points and an assist in a 25-13, 25-6 loss for the Patriots. Shannon Springer totaled three digs, and Abbi Dunlavy had two points.

FR 8th advances
The Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade volleyball team won its Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament opener Thursday, 25-23, 9-25, 25-19 over the Versailles Tigers. The seventh grade squad lost 28-26, 25-12.
Cassidy Rammel and Morgan Leuthold each scored eight points to lead the Indians (9-8). Makayla Grover added seven points.

Trisha Thien had eight points as the seventh grade team ended its year at 6-11. Kirsten Jutte scored six points, and Morgan Lennartz had five kills.

Chiefs top Blackford
East Jay’s seventh grade football team improved to 5-1-1 Thursday with an 18-6 win over visiting Blackford. The eighth grade team lost, 16-6.
Scott Somers had 60 yards receiving on two catches, including one on a pass from Adrian Stewart that went for a touchdown. Michael Vanover connected with Mitchell Bruggeman on a 24-yard TD pass, and Levi Hummel added a 1-yard TD run.
Andrew McShane scored the only TD for the eighth graders on a 60-yard pass from Nick Clemens. In the Chiefs’ 18-14 loss Tuesday to West Jay, Kalob Toland and Nick Clemens each had scoring runs.

Schroer leads Tribe
DELPHOS, Ohio — Kyle Schroer racked up three touchdowns Thursday in leading the Fort Recovery seventh grade football team to a 34-0 destruction of the host St. John’s Blue Jays. The eighth grade team lost 28-22.
Schroer scored all three first-half TDs for the Indians (3-3-2) on runs of 35, 30 and 22 yards. Darien Sheffer added second-half TD passes of 25 yards to Jackson Hobbs and 29 yards to Wes Wenning.
Seth Reigle had a pair of scoring runs, including a 63-yarder, for the eighth grade team (2-6). Cole Hull added a 65-yard scoring run and a pair of two-point conversions.[[In-content Ad]]
