FR announces Hall of Fame class (07/13/06)

Local roundup

FORT RECOVERY — The Hall has its first members.

Fort Recovery High School Wednesday released the names of those who will make up the inaugural class of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

The most recently active of the inductees is Lynn (Bihn) Hughes, a 1991 FRHS graduate. She led the Indians to back-to-back state championships in girls basketball and later player at Xavier University.

Other inductees include: Baseball and basketball player Dale Bruns (1955), basketball player William “Tom” Bryan (1967), baseball and basketball player Ken Heiby (1969), athlete, coach and principal Harold “Doc” Knapke (1940), basketball player Dick Walls (1949) and boys basketball coach Al Souder.

The first class will be inducted between the junior varsity and varsity boys basketball games against Ansonia Jan. 20.

Record in wash out

The competition was short-lived, but it was long enough for Anne Vormohr to set another record.

Vormohr broke her own team and pool records before the Jay County Summer Swim Team’s meet against Wells Community was halted by storms after just 14 events. Jay County had a 127-47 lead when the meet, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday, was called.

Vormohr led the way for Jay County, which won the only four individual events contested on the evening. She broke her own records in the long freestyle, setting a new top mark in the 8-and-younger girls division at 36.61 seconds.

Other winners in the event were Adam Young, Caitlin Mark and Levi Hummel. Jay County (9-1) was also first in 7-of-10 medley relays.[[In-content Ad]]
