FORT RECOVERY — After winning their home opener Tuesday, the Indians couldn’t repeat the feat in Thursday’s first league match.
The Fort Recovery High School volleyball team fell in three games to the visiting St. Henry Redskins, 25-9, 25-22, 25-16.
Kylie Kahlig had six blocks, four kills and four digs to lead the Indians, who fell to 1-2. Kayla Kahlig added eight assists.
Kelsey Fiely matched Kylie Kahlig with four kills, Abby Backs shared the team high of four digs and Emily Link scored two points.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity squad took its first loss of the year, 25-19, 29-27 to the Redskins. Sierra Pugh finished with 11 digs, five blocks and four assists, and Cassidy Rammel contributed 11 digs, four assists and three points.
Blue Jays top golfers
CELINA, Ohio — Both teams recorded 20 pars Thursday, but the visiting St. John’s Blue Jays were more consistent overall as they defeated the Fort Recovery boys golf team 164-181.
Gage Retz led the Indians at Mercer County Elks Golf Club, recording three pars on the way to a 43. He hit four greens in regulation.
Cody Kunder of St. John’s earned medalist honors with a 38.
Jared Kahlig and Shawn Roessner each shot 45 to follow Retz for the Tribe, and Derek Rammel completed the team score with a 48. Chad Schroer shot 49, and Elijah Kahlig had a 50.
Dues leads gridders
FORT RECOVERY — Cole Dues scored three times Thursday to lead the Fort Recovery seventh grade football team to a 28-6 victory over the Marion Local Flyers. The eighth graders lost, 22-14.
All of the scoring plays for Dues came on long runs — 42, 51 and 54 yards — in the first quarter. Caleb Martin added a 4-yard TD run in the second quarter for the Indians (2-0), and Caleb Martin and Austin Jutte each had two-point conversion runs.
Derien Sheffer tossed a 38-yard TD pass to Jackson Hobbs in the opening quarter for the eighth grade team (1-1). He also scored on a 20-yard run in the fourth quarter, and then threw to Ross Homan for the two-point conversion.[[In-content Ad]]
