FR tops 'Skins, earns 2nd seed for sectional (04/28/05)

ST. HENRY, Ohio — The Indians wouldn’t mind seeing St. Henry again.

Fort Recovery’s softball team defeated the host Redskins 4-2 Wednesday. If the teams were to play again this year, it would be in the sectional championship game.

The Tribe jumped on top with two runs in the first inning and one in the second and never trailed against the Redskins as it improved to 2-1 in the Midwest Athletic Conference.

Ciera Rammel paced the offense as one of four players to pick up at least two hits. She finished 3-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases, one run and one RBI.

Renee Evers was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, Krystal Rammel had two hits and an RBI and Alyssa Tobe also had two hits. Megan Wenning doubled and scored a run.

Tobe earned the win, pulling within a game of .500 at 5-6. She gave up two runs on seven hits as she went the distance. She struck out five batters and did not issue a walk.

Fort Recovery, now 7-7, got the No. 2 seed in the New Bremen sectional as the draw was announced Wednesday. The Indians will open play against either Minster (4-9) or Marion Local (4-12) Wednesday, May 11 at 5 p.m.

Minster and Marion Local will meet in first-round action Wednesday, May 4 at 5 p.m., with the winner advancing to the game against Fort Recovery. The other first-round game will be between the top seed host Cardinals (10-4) and St. Henry (3-13) Friday, May 6 at 5 p.m.

The championship game will be Tuesday, May 17 at 5 p.m. with the winning team advancing to the Wapakoneta district tournament.

Baseball crushes ‘Skins

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery baseball team evened its Midwest Athletic Conference record and earned its 10th win of the season with a 8-2 thumping of the St. Henry Redskins Wednesday.

The game was tied 1-1 midway through the second inning, but the Indians (10-8) scored three runs in the second and sixth innings to take command. The Tribe also scored once in the fourth inning, and the Redskins added their second run in the seventh.

Todd Post reached base in each plate appearance, going 2-for-2 with a double and a walk. He had an RBI, a run and a stolen base.

Dusty Tobe went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Bobby Rammel scored three runs.

Post also earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings. He struck out seven and walked three.[[In-content Ad]]
