COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Tribe continued its climb.

Fort Recovery High School's boys basketball team moved up to eighth in the Division IV poll released Monday by The Associated Press. The Indians, who were ninth last week, nearly doubled their total of poll points with 101.

FRHS, which is 11-1, finished 10 points behind No. 7 Dayton Jefferson (9-3) in the poll. It was well ahead of No. 9 Russia (10-3), which totaled just 33 points.

The Indians have won five straight games, and their only loss this season came against Division III No. 4 Coldwater. They avenged that loss in Midwest Athletic Conference play are tied for the league lead with St. John's with a 4-0 record.

Newark Catholic (12-0) was voted No. 1 in Division IV, in which each of the top five teams are unbeaten.

Minnich is third

ANDERSON - Emi Minnich turned in the top finish for the Patriot Track Club Saturday at the Midwest Club Indoor Meet at Anderson University.

Minnich finished third in the girls 3,200-meter run as she finished in 13 minutes, 56.42 seconds.

Kelsey Wood and Zach Cash were the only other athletes to record top-10 finishes for the club. Wood was fourth in the girls high jump at 4 feet, 6 inches, and Cash placed fifth in the 55 hurdles with a time of 9.86.

Brad Leuthold placed 11th with a time of 2:26.88, Patrick Williams was 14th in the 55 dash and Gary Corle finished 14th in the 200 dash.

West Jay wins again

MONROE - The West Jay Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team followed up its East Jay Invitational title by winning the Adams Central Invitational Saturday.

The Eagles prevailed in a couple of close games, including a 25-23 win over Hartford City in the championship.

James Williams led WJMS to the title with 10 points and 13 rebounds against Hartford City. Nate Brackman added eight points.

In the semifinal round against Adams Central, Case Retter buried a long 3-pointer as time expired to lift the Eagles. Adams Central had tied the game on a 3-point shot with just eight seconds left.

Williams powered the semifinal victory with nine points. Retter and Brackman added six apiece.

St. Joe tops Chiefs

East Jay Middle School's sixth grade girls basketball team suffered an 18-16 loss Monday to visiting Decatur St. Joe.

Abby Wendel led the Chiefs, who were up by one at halftime, with eight points. Cheyenne Loy added four points.

In the B team game, Lyla Muhlenkamp totaled 10 points as EJMS lost 22-18.[[In-content Ad]]
