FR wins again, now above .500 (01/09/04)

Fort Recovery Roundup

The winning streak the Fort Recovery Indians had hoped for is in full swing.

After opening at 2-5 — including several close losses to quality teams — the Indians have now jumped above .500. Their fourth straight win came against the Midwest Athletic Conference rival St. Henry Redskins Thursday by a score of 76-60.

Fort Recovery (6-5, 2-1 MAC) led by just one point after the first quarter before having a huge second. The Tribe blasted St. Henry 27-14 in the second quarter for a 14-point halftime lead which it never relinquished.

The Indians took advantage of turnovers, finishing with 22 compared to 31 for the Redskins. Both teams shot well in the first half — St. Henry 55 percent to the Tribe’s 48 percent — but Fort Recovery took nine more shots and drilled four of its eight 3-point tries.

Freshman Holly Stein sparked the outstanding shooting, hitting 7-of-8 field goal attempts on the way to a 22-point night. Her effort included a perfect 3-for-3 night to bump her season 3-point mark up to an oustanding 47 percent. The team finished at 57 percent from long distance.

Stein also shared a team high with Jenn Stahl with six rebounds, and added four steals.

Joscie Kaup also dropped in three 3-pointers against the Redskins on the way to an 18-point night. She had five assists and four steals.

Ciera Rammel finished with nine points and five assists, and Krystal Rammel had nine points and five rebounds. Vicki Roessner contributed four assists.

St. Henry (1-7, 1-2 MAC) got 21 points from Brenda Hemmelgarn on 9-of-12 shooting. She also added six rebounds and three assists.

Linsay Hess had 10 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

Fort Recovery will host Ansonia Tuesday at 6 p.m. before returning to conference action Thursday against MAC-leading Marion Local Thursday.

The junior varsity game against St. Henry also went to the Indians, 44-23.

The Tribe (7-3, 2-1 MAC) led the game throughout with Sam Staugler scoring 10 points and grabbing eight boards, and Kelsie Will getting 10 points and four rebounds. Sara Fortkamp had six points, four assists and four steals, and Julie Link added six points and three steals.

Erica Wilker paced St. Henry with seven points, three rebounds and two steals.

FR 7th wins first

The Fort Recovery seventh grade boys basketball team earned its first win of the year Thursday 41-18 over St. Henry. The eighth grade team also topped the Redskins 25-18.

Toby Metzger paced the seventh grade Indians (1-5) with 18 points and seven rebounds as they led the game throughout. Jordan Hess followed with five points and seven rebounds.

Clint Tobe just missed a double-double for the eighth grade team (4-2) as he scored nine points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Eric Lamm had eight points and four rebounds, and Lucas Staugler grabbed seven boards.[[In-content Ad]]
