Free throws key Patriots' win in overtime (01/11/08)

Jay County roundup

When the Patriots finally got to shoot free throws, they made them count.

Jay County High School's freshman boys basketball team didn't take a single foul shot in regulation Thursday, but buried all eight in overtime to take a 33-25 victory over the visiting Richmond Red Devils.

The Patriots had a seven-point lead after the opening period, but the lead gradually slipped away. JCHS scored just six second-half points, and the Red Devils tied the score at 23 at the close of regulation. Each team made just one field goal in overtime, but Garrett Krieg hit all six of his free throw attempts for Jay County and Drew Houck added a pair.

Krieg finished with 17 points to lead the Patriots, and Houck followed with eight. Zach Cash scored six points, and Anthony Skeens capped the scoring with two.
