FRHS blasts Tigers

Fort Recovery roundup

ANSONIA, Ohio — A stunning second quarter broke Saturday’s game wide open as the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team slaughtered the Ansonia Tigers 90-38.
Leading by just five after the first period, the Indians (13-2) outscored Ansonia 35-4 in the second. They had a 12-0 run early in the period, and then finished the quarter with 20 straight points.
Olivia Thien scored 12 of her game-high 15 points in the second period, and Kylie Kahlig added nine of her 13. Kendra Brunswick scored 14 points for the Tribe, and Olivia Schwieterman hit four 3-pointers for 12.
Ericka Lennartz led FRHS with seven rebounds, and Kendra Brunswick grabbed six. Kylie Kahlig came up with six steals, and Nicole Dilworth dished out five assists.
Kendra Reier and Taylor Wasson each scored 10 points for the Tigers.

Tankers win two
NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys swim team earned a pair of victories Saturday, defeating St. Henry 39-7 and Parkway 36-8. It fell 46-28 to New Bremen and 59-27 to Minster. The Tribe girls went 0-3 on the day.
Freshman Mitch Homan picked up one of the three wins for the Indian boys, taking the 500-yard freestyle in 6 minutes, 56.55 seconds. Andy Gray won the 200 individual medley in 2:35.83, and Marshall Hull was first in the 100 backstroke at 1:08.51.
Marshall Hull also placed second in the 100 butterfly at the five-team meet, and Lane Hull was third in the 50 freestyle. Kelly Hull had the top finish for the girls team, taking fifth in the 200 freestyle.

Boys fall to FL
FORT LORAMIE, Ohio — Struggles in the second and third quarters Saturday sent the Fort Recovery boys basketball team to its fourth straight loss, 53-40 to the Fort Loramie Redskins.
Wade Gelhaus totaled 15 points, four assists and three blocks for the Indians, who were outscored 33-16 in the second and third quarters. Elijah Kahlig added 10 points, and Jared Kahlig had the team high of four rebounds.
Cody Albers had 19 points to lead Fort Loramie.
In the junior varsity game, Bobby Mattraw and Chad Schroer each scored eight points in the Indians’ 31-28 loss. And in freshman action, Kent Retz finished with 11 points as FRHS lost 50-26.

MS boys win two
FORT RECOVERY — Two players reached double figures Saturday for the Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team as it earned its second win of the year, 45-34 over the Russia Raiders. The seventh graders also won, 49-44.
Evan Schoen scored 12 points for the eighth graders (2-9), and Cole Hull added 10.
Darien Sheffer had 16 points as the Indian seventh grade team improved to 10-1. Kyle Schroer scored 12.[[In-content Ad]]
