FRHS picks up 10th win

ARCANUM, Ohio — Less than three full weeks into the season, the Indians already have more wins than they did all of last year.
Blake Boughman drove in the lead run in the top of the seventh inning Thursday, giving the Fort Recovery High School baseball team a 3-2 victory over the host Franklin-Monroe Jets.
The Indians (10-3) led 2-0 before Franklin-Monroe pulled even in the bottom of the third inning. Boughman drove in Chad Schroer with the winning run in the seventh.
Fort Recovery was 9-17 last season, and had won just two games apiece in 2010 and ’11.
Kent Retz (3-0) tossed two scoreless innings and struck out two batters for the win. Starter Jacob Muhlenkamp struck out six batters and allowed two unearned runs in five innings.
Gabe Riegle finished 2-for-3 with a run, Boughman had a hit and two RBIs and Schroer added a hit and two runs.

SA netters lose
BERNE — The South Adams girls tennis team dropped its Allen County Athletic Conference opener 4-1 Thursday to the Leo Lions.
Alyssa Armenta and Shiana Scott picked up the only victory for the Starfires (0-3, 0-1 ACAC) in the No. 1 doubles match. They took the opening set in a tiebreaker on the way to a 7-6 (9-7), 2-6, 6-3 win.
Holly Taylor and Madison Graber also went three sets at No. 2 doubles, but fell 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2.
At No. 1 doubles, Madison Kloepper suffered a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Annya Mohlman. Faith VonGunten fell 6-1, 6-0 to Jen Timbrook in the No. 2 singles match, and Jennifer Potts lost by a shutout to Lea Hughbanks at No. 3 singles.


Fort last at Parkway
ROCKFORD, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s track teams each finished last in a three-team meet Thursday at Parkway.
The Indian girls scored 25 points to finish behind Coldwater (127) and Parkway (86). The boys scored three points while Coldwater won with 145 and Parkway was second with 81.
Elle Sutter led the Tribe girls as she finished second in the 1,600-meter run in 6 minutes, 0.7 seconds. She was also third in 13:11.84 in the 3,200 run.
Hannah Kaup added a runner-up effort at 14 feet, 3½ inches, in the long jump. Caitlyn Huelskamp followed Sutter in third place in the 1,600 run.
David Trobridge was fourth for the boys team with a time of 22.76 in the 110 hurdles.

Tribe JV pulls even
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team evened its record Thursday with a 6-5 victory over the Parkway Panthers.
The Indians (3-3) trailed 2-0 before taking the lead with three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Parkway scored three times in the top of the seventh for a 5-4 lead, but FRHS responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning for the win.
Jacob Westgerdes went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI to lead the Tribe offense. Nick Link was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Adam LeFevre had a run and an RBI.
Ross Homan struck out the only batter he faced to earn the win.[[In-content Ad]]
