Sentenced for DWI

A Dunkirk man's guilty plea recently was accepted in Jay Superior Court.

Jeremy J. Newsome, 27, pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated, a class D felony. His guilty plea was accepted Tuesday and he was sentenced to 18 months in the Jay County Jail, with all but six months suspended.

He will serve 30 days in the Jay County Jail and five months on electronically monitored home detention. In jail, he will receive day-for-day good time credit for good behavior.

He was fined $100 and ordered to pay $164.50 in court costs, a $200 alcohol and drug countermeasures fee and a $400 Jay Superior Court Substance Abuse Program fee.

Newsome was placed on probation for one year, and his driver's license was suspended for one year.

A charge of driving with an alcohol concentration equivalent of .15 or more was dismissed.

He was arrested Aug. 15 after he was pulled over by Jay County police for failing to signal a turn while driving a moped in Dunkirk.[[In-content Ad]]
