CITY ACCIDENT

Vehicles driven by two Portland residents collided Thursday at 12:58 p.m. in a Portland alley.

Lane Allen, 18, 105 E. Penn St., told Portland Police he was stopped facing east at the intersection of Corn Alley and Cinder Alley and did not see a vehicle driven by Steven E. Lothridge, 21, 2194 East 100 North.

Allen said he did not see Lothridge’s 1997 Dodge Dakota and was unable to avoid a collision after pulling into the intersection. Allen was driving a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass.

Combined damage to the vehicles was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.

SENTENCED

Two Fort Recovery men were sentenced in Celina Municipal Court recently for alcohol-related charges.

Scott A. Kaiser, 25, 720 Meiring Road, was sentenced to three days in jail or three days alcohol school for a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated. He was fined $350 and his driver’s license was suspended for six months. Charges of blood-alcohol content and failure to maintain reasonable control were dismissed.

Kyle E. Dues, 18, 1661 Siegrist-Jutte Road, was fined $100 and costs or obtain an alcohol evaluation and follow the guidelines and costs for a misdemeanor charge of underage possession/consumption of alcohol.

DISTRICT MEETING

The board of directors of the Jay County Solid Waste District will hold its April meeting Monday at 3:30 p.m. at district headquarters, 5948 West Ind. 67, Portland.

Among the items of discussion will be revisions on the district’s 20-year waste reduction plan. The plan, which was submitted earlier this year to state officials for review, has been returned for revision/correction.

The plan will have to be revised and re-submitted.

Also to be discussed will be the possibility of reimbursing Jay County’s general fund for district expenses paid by the county.

Jay County High School agriculture teacher Robert C. Lyons will also discuss the school’s greenhouse project with the board.
