Alvin Timmons
Alvin A. “Sam” Timmons, 78, 208 Meridian Heights, Portland, died Thursday in the Jay County Hospital.
Born on Jan. 5, 1925, to Carson and Myrtle (Yates) Timmons in Alton, Ill., he married Georgellen Dwiggins, who died July 6, 2003. He was a master sergeant and a tank fleet commander with the U.S. Army during World War II.
The manager of Standard Oil Company, he later owned and operated L.P. Gas Company in Albany for many years.
Surviving are two sons, Lee Timmons, Portland, and Vaughn Sutton, Shirley; three sisters, Norma Nix, St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Chester (Naoma) Kress, and Mrs. Arthur (Margaret) Tanner, both of Winchester; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.
Services are Sunday at 2 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, Winchester, with Pastor Tim Hall officiating.
Burial will follow in Fountain Park Cemetery, Winchester.
Visitation is Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.[[In-content Ad]]
