Back pain
A Portland woman complained of back pain after she was involved in a two-vehicle accident in Wayne Township on Thursday.
Kristina S. Wolford, 54, 507 W. High St., complained of pain following the 11:20 a.m. accident. She was the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident.
The other vehicle was driven by Nina L. Records, 83, 120 Pilgrim Drive, Portland.
According to Jay County police, Records was driving west on Ind. 67, looking for a business. At the same time, Wolford was driving east on Ind. 67. Records turned left in front of Wolford, and the vehicles collided. The 2006 Chevrolet Impala driven by Wolford went off the south side of the road, struck an address sign and struck a lighted business sign.
The accident caused combined damage to Records’ 2004 GMC Envoy, the Chevy, the address sign, owned by Jay County, 224 W. Water St., Portland, and the lighted sign, owned by State of the Heart Hospice, 1237 West Ind. 67, Portland, that was estimated at $10,000 to $25,00.

Hits pole
A vehicle driven by a rural Portland woman struck a pole in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter on Thursday.
Elizabeth Meinerding, 5708 South Mt. Pleasant Road, told Portland police she was driving in the parking lot at 650 W. Votaw St. and another vehicle failed to yield the right of way. She swerved to try to avoid a collision and struck a pole. The accident occurred at 1:41 p.m.
Damage to her 2009 Nissan Titan was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.

Parked vehicle hit
Someone struck a Portland resident’s vehicle while it was parked at Jay County Hospital, 500 W. Votaw St., Portland, on Thursday.
Stephanie S. Carpenter, 921 W. North St., told Portland police the front of her 2010 Hyundai Tucson was hit. She noticed the damage at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Damage to the vehicle was estimated at less than $1,000.

Hits deer
A vehicle driven by a Pennville man sustained damage estimated at less than $1,000 Thursday morning when it struck a deer in Jackson Township.
David Clark, 64, 194 W. High St., told Jay County police he was driving west on county road 300 North, west of county road 200 West, and several deer ran onto the road. He was unable to avoid hitting one of the deer with his 1993 Buick Century. The accident occurred at 7:39 a.m.

Gun stolen
Someone stole a rural Portland man’s handgun from his vehicle.
Clayton Guntle, 1238 West 150 South, told Jay County police that his Taurus .40-caliber was stolen from his unlocked Jeep. The theft occurred between sometime on Monday and before 9:47 a.m. on Thursday, while the vehicle was parked in Portland.

Part stolen
A Portland man told police that someone stole a catalytic converter from his Mercedes Benz.
Bob Brown, 807 W. Main St., told Portland police that the theft occurred while the car was parked at Baldauf Garage, 973 ½ S. Meridian St., Portland. Brown said the car has been parked at the business for several months. Value of the part was estimated at $500.

Recycling schedule
The Jay County Solid Waste District will have two recycling trailers Saturday:
• Ludwig’s parking lot, Dunkirk, 9 a.m.-noon. West Jay Optimist Club.
• Marsh Hometown Market, Portland, 9 a.m.-noon. Jay County Shooting Sports 4-H Club.
Mailbox damaged
Someone damaged a rural Portland man’s mailbox.
Fred Bailey, 167 West 200 South, contacted Jay County police Wednesday at 5:17 p.m. and said his mailbox had been broken off its steel pole.  Police said it appeared that a vehicle had slid off the road and struck the mailbox sometime on Wednesday.[[In-content Ad]]
