Redkey crash

A rural Redkey man was injured Monday morning in a two-vehicle accident on Ind. 67 at the intersection of county road 600 South near Redkey, police said.

Injured was William Sockrider, 86, 8185 West 800 South, Redkey Marshal Brenda Collett reported.

Sockrider was driving east on county road 600 South in his 2003 Ford pick-up truck and drove into the intersection at Ind. 67.

A Lincoln sport utility vehicle, headed northeast on Ind. 67, collided with Sockrider’s truck shortly after 7 a.m. Monday, police said.

The SUV was driven by David Brown, 54, 3901 Vienna Woods, Muncie.

Sockrider was transported by Jay Emergency Medical Service.

Redkey police estimated the combined damage to both vehicles at between $5,000 and $10,000.

TWO INJURED

Two Portland men were injured in a one-vehicle accident today at 1:45 a.m. in Wayne Township.

Miguel F. Mejia, 24, 310 S. Meridian St., was transported by Jay Emergency Medical Service for head pain and Luis R. Favela, 44, 416 E. Main St., was treated for pain in his entire body, according to a report prepared by Jay County police.

Lorenza Torres, 39, 328 1/2 S. Meridian St., Portland, was driving east on Ind. 26, about one-half mile east of county road 100 East, when he fell asleep.

He said that he suddenly woke up and lost control of the car he was driving and struck a tree on the north side of the road.

Damage to the 1996 Dodge Neon, registered to Onecimo Bermundex, 315 N. Jefferson St., Berne, was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.

BURGLARY

Approximately $2,400 was stolen from a rural Portland business during a burglary that occurred sometime Thursday night or this morning.

An employee of 4TC Corporation, 2698 North U.S. 27, reported the burglary about 7:30 a.m. today.

A window on the north side of the building was broken to gain entry.

The money was in a cash box and was taken from an unlocked drawer.

According to the Jay County police report, the theft occurred sometime between 5:30 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today.

ITEMS STOLEN

A Portland woman reported to Portland police this morning that her DVD player and four DVDs were stolen.

Bobbi Myers, Heather Park Apartments, Boundary Pike, told police that she returned home early this morning to find that her DVD player and four DVDs were missing from her apartment.

She said the theft occurred sometime between 11:30 p.m. Thursday and 1 a.m. today.

According to the police report, there were no signs of forced entry into her apartment.

MOBILE OFFICE

U.S. Rep. Mike Pence’s mobile office will make a stop in Portland on Thursday, Jan. 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Members of Pence’s staff will be at Portland City Hall, 321 N. Meridian St., during that time to answer questions from Jay County residents and listen to comments about federal legislation or other issues.[[In-content Ad]]
