Meeting rescheduled
A meeting of the Portland Economic Development Income Tax Advisory Committee scheduled for Thursday was canceled.
Bruce Hosier, the city's mayor and member of the committee, said he decided to reschedule the meeting because some of the members were unable to attend.
He said he wants all members to be there when the committee votes on whether or not to use EDIT funds to pay engineering fees for Hudson Family Park. The Portland Board of Works recently voted to pay The Schneider Corporation $85,900 to do the engineering work for phase III of the park project.
The meeting has been rescheduled for July 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the Portland Fire Station meeting room, 1616 N. Franklin St., Portland.
Truck stolen
A Portland resident reported the theft of his pick-up truck on Thursday.
Gary Hart, 217 E. Arch St., told Portland police his blue 1991 GMC Sonoma was stolen while parked in front of his residence. Hart said he left the keys in the truck.
The theft occurred a 9:40 p.m. Thursday. Hart said he saw a man get into the truck and drive away.
Hart purchased the truck in April for $700.
Turning accident
Vehicles driven by a New Castle woman and a Saratoga man collided in Wayne Township Wednesday at 1:33 p.m.
A 2006 Saturn Ion driven by Melissa A. Hiday, 42, 1111 Crescent Drive, and a 2004 Ford Taurus driven by Scott A. Prinkey, 53, collided at U.S. 27 and county road 200 South.
Hiday told Jay County police she was driving north on U.S. 27. She turned on her left turn signal to turn left onto county road 200 South. She realized it was not the right road and continued driving north. Her car collided with Prinkey's car as he was turning north onto U.S. 27. Combined damage to the vehicles was estimated at $2,500 to $5,000.
Driver cited
A Portland woman was cited by police after she was involved in a two-vehicle accident.
Kayla S. Gierhart, 19, 687 S. Western Ave., was cited for driving while license suspended following the 4:57 p.m. accident in Portland.
Gierhart told Portland police she was driving north on Western Avenue Thursday behind Sylinda D. Elam, 26, 997 Boundary Pike, Apt. 2, Portland. Gierhart said she saw Elam stopped and thought she had begun to move forward.
The 1990 Oldsmobile driven by Gierhart struck the rear of Elam's 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier. The accident occurred at Walnut Street. Combined damage to the Oldsmobile, registered to Cody Gierhart, 6769 West 400 South, Portland, and the Chevy, was estimated at less than $1,000.
Backing up accident
Vehicles driven by Portland residents collided in the parking lot of Oasis Beauty, Tanning and Toning, 304 W. Votaw St., Portland, on Thursday.
Kim E. Mills, 47, 932 W. North St., told Portland police she was backing out of a parking spot and did not see Evelynn C. Perod, 28, 110 W. Third St., driving behind her. The vehicles collided.
The 4:43 p.m. accident caused combined damage to Mills' 1998 Chevrolet Venture and Perod's 2001 Chevrolet Venture, that was estimated at less than $1,000.
Parked vehicle hit
A 1997 Pontiac Grand Am driven by a Portland man backed up and hit a rural Portland couple's vehicle while it was parked on Thursday.
William C. McGraw, 53, 916 S. Meridian St., told Portland police the accident occurred at Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut St., Portland. McGraw said he backed up and struck a 2003 Buick LeSabre registered to Thomas and Janet Armstrong, 127 West Golfbrook Drive.
The accident occurred at 3:33 p.m.
Police estimated combined damage to McGraw's 1997 Pontiac Grand Am and the Buick at less than $1,000.
Pills stolen
A Portland resident told police someone stole pills from her purse.
Kayla Gierhart, 687 S. Western Ave., said 80 Xanax tablets were taken from her purse while she was at 720 N. Franklin St.
Gierhart said she went into a bedroom and left her purse on the kitchen table at the Franklin Street residence. Her pills were taken between 5 and 7 p.m. Thursday.[[In-content Ad]]
