COUNTY ACCIDENT

A vehicle driven by a rural Union City teenager went off the road and struck an embankment Thursday at 1:45 p.m. in Pike Township.

Justin M. Fennig, 17, 8284 South 800 East, told Jay County police he was northbound on Boundary Pike, a half-mile south of county road 400 South, when his rear brakes locked up, causing him to lose control of the car.

The 1988 Toyota car he was driving, registered to Wayne Bailey of the same address, fish-tailed before hitting an embankment on the east side of the road.

Damage to the vehicle was estimated between $750 to $1,000.

CITY ACCIDENT

Vehicles driven by a Portland man and a rural Portland woman collided on Meridian Street in Portland Thursday at 5:05 p.m.

Michael E. Myers, 46, 959 S. Shank St., told Portland he was driving north on Meridian Street when he looked away from the road.

When he looked back, he was approaching the rear of a 1999 Ford Windstar driven by Linda L. Landfair, 45, 1978 South Nan Del Lane. Myers told police he was unable to avoid the collision.

Landfair also was northbound on Meridian Street when the collision occurred 100 feet north of McNeil Street.

Combined damage to Landfair’s van and Myers’ 1992 Olds Achieva was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.[[In-content Ad]]
