Sentenced for rape
A Redkey man was recently sentenced for raping a 17-year-old girl.
Jason Akemon, 32, was found guilty of rape, a class B felony, by a Jay Circuit Court jury on Jan. 29.
On March 11, he was sentenced to 18 years in the Indiana Department of Correction, with 544 days credit for time served. He was ordered to pay $164 in court costs.
The rape occurred June 9 in Redkey. He was arrested June 12.
Bond reduced
A rural Dunkirk man's bond recently was reduced in Jay Circuit Court.
Travis Sewell, 23, is facing charges of dealing in methamphetamine, a class B felony; possession of a controlled substance, possession of chemical reagents or precursors with intent to manufacture a controlled substance and possession of meth, all class D felonies; possession of marijuana, a class A misdemeanor
On March 9, his bond was reduced to $25,000 from $40,000.
Sewell was arrested Jan. 17 after the vehicle he was driving was pulled over in Redkey for a burned out headlight and a cracked windshield. Police allegedly found a mobile methamphetamine lab inside the vehicle.
Arrested for dealing
A Bluffton man has been sentenced for selling morphine to a police informant.
Cody Crowder, 21, pleaded guilty in Jay Circuit Court to dealing in a schedule II controlled substance, a class B felony.
His guilty plea was accepted March 8 and he was sentenced to 10 years in the Indiana Department of Correction, with six years suspended and credit for 15 days served.
He was ordered to pay $164 in court costs, a $200 drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and corrections fee and $1,175 in restitution to the Portland Police Department. He was placed on probation for six years.
A charge of dealing in a schedule II controlled substance, a class B felony was dismissed as part of a plea agreement in the case.
He was arrested Oct. 29. The drug deal occurred June 8.[[In-content Ad]]
