Mailboxes hit
A Portland woman hit two mailboxes in Portland Thursday morning after driving off the roadway.
Jammy Lee Marie Hawkins, 20, 835 N. Creagor Ave, was driving on Franklin Street when she reached to grab her purse, causing her to leave the road. She struck mailboxes at 812 and 816 N. Franklin St.
An estimated $1,000 to $2,500 of combined damage was caused to Hawkin's 1999 Buick LeSabre, registered to Daniel J. Straley, 420 N. Charles St., Portland, and the mailboxes owned by Kevin Franks, 812 N. Franklin, and Thomas Paul, 816 N. Franklin. The accident occurred at 10:27 a.m.
Garage burglary
Someone entered a Portland resident's unlocked garage and stole several guitars, video games, a video game system and money.
The victim, Dave Teeter, 704 Blaine Pike, told Portland police the burglary occurred between 11:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7 p.m. Thursday. Entry was made through the unlocked door, Portland police said.
Total value of the stolen items was estimated at $2,500.
Plate stolen
A Portland resident told police someone stole the license plat off of her vehicle.
Cynthia Reed, 819 E. North St., reported the theft to Portland police Thursday at 8:12 p.m. She said the theft occurred between sometime Wednesday night and sometime Thursday morning.
FFA results
Poultry judging teams from Jay County High School finished first, second and third at an area meet, and will compete Saturday in the state meet at Purdue.
Members of the poultry judging teams were Michelle Dirksen, Megan Taylor, Katie Link, Esther Stephen, Stephanie Schwieterman, Kassie Cavanaugh, Jennifer Dirksen, Aaron McLaughlin, Andrew Minnich, Michael Ault and Aaron Cain. Taylor, Link, Stephen and Michelle Dirksen were among the top five individuals.
Also finishing fifth was the livestock team of Wesley Price, Colton Prescott, Jacob Chenoweth and Chris Lutes.
In area courts
In Adams Superior Court recently, Betty Wandell, 45, Bryant, was found guilty of disregarding a stop sign. She was fined $100 and ordered to pay $114.50 in court costs.
In Adams Circuit Court recently, Daimler Chrysler Financial, Jacksonville, Fla., was granted $14,802.74 from Matt and Amy Weaver, Geneva; David and Becky Booker, Geneva, were granted $580 from Charles "Chuck" Towell, Geneva.[[In-content Ad]]
