Executive session
The Ridgeville Town Council will hold an executive session Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Ridgeville library/fire building.
The meeting is being held to discuss and receive information about prospective employees.

Falls asleep
A rural Redkey man told police he fell asleep while driving in Jefferson Township Thursday, causing his vehicle to go off the road and into a culvert.
Joe B. Strohl, 67, 4057 South 1000 West, told Jay County police he was driving northeast on Ind. 67, near county road 1000 West, and fell asleep. His 2005 Ford went off the road, struck a guardrail and went into a culvert.
The 2:45 p.m. accident caused combined damage to the Ford and the guardrail, owned by the Indiana Department of Transportation, that was estimated at $5,000 to $10,000.

Intersection collision
Vehicles driven by rural Portland men collided in Bearcreek Township Thursday at 11:42 a.m.
A 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Robert Muhlenkamp, 81, 5615 East 400 North, and a 2001 International truck driven by Van E. Guntle, 42, 705 North 200 West, collided.
Muhlenkamp told Jay County police he was driving east on county road 500 North and looked away from the road. At the same time, Guntle was driving north on county road 450 East and was stopped at the intersection.
The Pontiac driven by Muhlenkamp collided with the plow hitch on the front of the truck driven by Guntle.
Police estimated combined damage to the Pontiac and the international, registered to Jay County Commissioners, 120 W. Main St., Portland, at $1,000 to $2,500.

Parking lot accident
A rural Dunkirk woman told police her vehicle collided with another vehicle while in the parking lot of Walmart, 950 W. Votaw St., Portland.
Juanita R. Brown, 75, 1112 North 1100 West, told Portland police she backed out from a parking space and began to move forward, but hit a parked car.

The accident occurred Thursday at 6:14 p.m.
Combined damage to Brown’s 2003 Buick LeSabre  and the 2004 Ford Crown Victoria, registered to Betty J. Stein, 3831 East 100 North, Portland, was estimated at less than $1,000.

Deer accidents
Jay County police investigated three separate vehicle-deer accidents on Thursday.
The first accident occurred at 8:31 a.m. in Greene Township.
Tamra A. Sevigny, 54, 4314 N. Painted Turtle Court, Anderson, told police she was driving northeast on Ind. 67, southwest of county road 200 South, and a deer struck the passenger side of her 2007 Kia Sportage.
Damage was estimated at $5,000 to $10,000.
A semi truck driven by an Ohio man struck a deer in Jackson Township at 10:27 a.m.
William C. Phillps Jr., 52, 15156 Hartford Road, Sunbury, said he was driving east on Ind. 18, east of county road 500 West, and a deer ran onto the road. He struck it with his 2007 Peterbilt.
Police estimated damage at $1,000 to $2,500.
A rural Ridgeville man’s vehicle sustained damage estimated at $2,500 to $5,000 when it struck a deer in Jefferson Township.
Jerry D. Stewart, 44, 4280 East 800 South, told Jay County police he was driving west on county road 800 South, near county road 700 West, and a deer ran in front of his 2007 Ford Escape. He struck the animal at 11:25 p.m.

Equipment stolen
A rural Portland resident told police that someone stole several pieces of farming equipment from a field located near his home.
John Stockton, 328 South 600 West, told Jay County police that two tractor jacks, seven hitch pins, a hydraulic cylinder, two bale forks and equipment for a field cultivator were stolen. He contacted police Thursday and said the theft occurred sometime in the last two weeks.
Total value of the stolen items was estimated at $1,313.[[In-content Ad]]
