DEMOCRAT MEETING
A meeting of all Jay County members of the Democratic Party will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Portland.
The meeting will be held at county headquarters at 221 S. Meridian St.
Among the items for discussion will be preparations for the upcoming Jefferson-Jackson Dinner.
All current candidates for office are encouraged to attend.
PARKING LOT MISHAP
Two vehicles collided in the parking lot of Wal-Mart in Portland Thursday evening.
At 6:08 p.m. Tyler M. Mills, 17, 1419 North 600 East, Portland, told Portland police he was driving north on the east side of the parking lot when a car driven by Frederick E. Schuman, 57, 8330 South 300 West, Geneva, pulled into his path.
Schuman told police he was pulling into the parking lot when the Mills vehicle collided with his at a high rate of speed.
A witness also told police the vehicle Mills was driving was going at a high rate of speed.
Estimated damages to the 1986 Dodge Diplomat, registered to Stephen and Julie Mills, same address as the driver, and Schuman’s 1996 Chevrolet Lumina, were between $1,000 and $2,500.
COUNTY ACCIDENT
A dump truck driven by a rural Portland man collided with a parked truck on county road 600 East near county road 600 South Thursday morning.
Richard E. Knoth, 63, 5211 North 250 West, told Jay County police he was backing up and failed to see the truck on the side of the road, colliding with it.
Estimated damage to the 2004 truck driven by Knoth registered to the Jay County Board of Commissioners, 1035 East 200 North, Portland, and the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, registered to LICA Construction Corp., 5832 West Ind. 218, Berne, was between $1,000 and $2,500.
MARIJUANA FIELD RAID
A field in southern Adams County just east of Geneva was raided Wednesday by the Adams County police and the Indiana State police.
Police removed 17 marijuana plants.
The field is located on county road 600 East just south of county road 1100 South.
Police said that each plant was capable of producing one pound of marijuana with a possible street value of $19,000 for the 17 plants.
Acting on an anonymous tip, police began their investigation. No one has been arrested, and the owner of the property has not been identified.[[In-content Ad]]
