Jack Lindley

Services for Jack Earl Lindley, 92, Portland, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, west of Bryant.
Lindley died Thursday at Parkview Nursing Home in Muncie.
Born in Detroit, Mich., to John and Anna (Peevir) Lindley, he is survived by his wife Juanita, whom he married on Sept. 6, 1986.
A veteran of the United States Army and United States Air Force, he served during World War II and was a Corporal in the 787th Military Police Battalion.
An instructor at West Point Military Academy, he drove a city bus for more than 4 years while living in Fort Wayne, was a security guard for UTA in Berne and was a member of New Covenant Fellowship Church in rural Portland.
Surviving besides his wife are two stepdaughters, Mrs. Doyle (Annabelle) Miller, Bryant, and Mrs. Francis (Susan) Betts, rural Portland; a stepson, Glen A. Bollinger, rural Pennville; a half sister, Cheryl D. Lindley, Fontana, Calif.; several grandchildren, stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, west of Bryant.
Visitation is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jessie Lee Hinshaw, 51, Pennville, died Wednesday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Born in Bluffton to Carlos and Becky (King) Hinshaw, he was a 1976 graduate of Jay County High School.
He had worked for Stoneridge Company (formerly Alphabet, Inc.) in Portland and George Hanlin Jr. Well Drilling in Pennville.
Memberships include Millard-Brown Sons of the American Legion Post No. 156 in Montpelier and Hanlin Tractor Pulling team.
Survivors include his sister, Jackie Cupp, Florida; and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation is Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Walker and Glancy Funeral Home in Montpelier. There will be no services.

Mildred Smiley

Mildred L. Smiley, 86, 110 Bittersweet Lane, Geneva, died Wednesday at her home.
Born in Dorchester, Wis., to Herman and Frieda Meyer, she was preceded in death on June 26, 2003, by her husband Jack N. Smiley, whom she married on Dec. 19, 1945, in Marshfield, Wis.
She worked as the financial secretary of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant for several years, where she was a member. Other memberships include Jay County Senior Citizens Group and Redeemer Lutheran Church Senior Citizens.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Debra L.) Ross, Geneva; a brother, Herman Meyer, Clear Lake, Wis.; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services are Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Downing and Glancy Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Thurow and the Rev. Bjoern Teichert officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Geneva.
Visitation is Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Tom T. Farber, 83, Union City, a former Portland resident, died today at Parker Health Care in Parker City. Arrangements are pending at the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home.
Harry Reed
Oct. 7, 1925-Sept. 3, 2009
Harry Kenneth Reed, 83, Ridgeville, died Thursday at Marion VA Hospital.
Born in Edmundton, Ky., to John Cecil and Lonnie Buel (Clemmons) Reed, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary Lou (Hersberger) Reed.
A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he received a Purple Heart for a wound received during the battle for Iwo Jima in World War II. He also witnessed the historic raising of the flag on Iwo Jima by U.S. Marines.
He was a farmer in the Ridgeville community for many years and had worked as a DeKalb Corn Seed salesman, a school bus driver and a carpenter that built 42 homes.
Serving on the Franklin Township advisory board, he was a Franklin Township Trustee for 36 years and was a member of Bear Creek Friends Church in rural Winchester, Ridgeville Lions Club, Jaylanders Antique Car Club and Indiana Trustees Association.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Neal Reed, Ridgeville, and Sgt. Rickard Noel Reed (retired), Parker City; a daughter, Mrs. Everett (Regina Lou) Stewart, Ridgeville; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be Tuesday at noon at Bear Creek Friends Church. Burial will be in New Dayton/Bear Creek Cemetery.
Visitation is Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Thornburg Memorial Chapel of Parker City and two hours prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

Services were held Wednesday for Michael Leroy Clark, 54, Union City. The father of a Ridgeville man, he died Sunday at Union City Care Center in Union City, Ohio.
Born in New Castle, he was the son of Kathryn Cowen and Junius F. Clark.
Survivors include a daughter; a son, Kenneth Clark, Ridgeville; his mother, Kathryn Cowen Clark, Union City; two sisters; two brothers and three grandchildren.

Lori B. Jenkinson, 41, Union City, the sister of area residents, died Tuesday at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond.
Born in Coldwater, Ohio, to Phyllis Meyer Lewis, Union City, Ohio, and the late Hubert Schmitz, she is survived by her parents W.T. and Phyllis Lewis, Union City, Ohio.
Other survivors include two daughters; a son; six sisters, including Mrs. Richard (Nila) Newton, Salamonia, and Mrs. T.J. (Anita) Jutte, Fort Recovery; a brother; two stepbrothers and three stepsisters.
Services are Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Reichard Funeral Home in Union City with the Rev. George Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Snell Cemetery.
