Friendship fire to be held in Portland

The National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture Fall Friendship Fire will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, and Sunday, Oct. 23, in the Women’s Building at the Jay County Fairgrounds.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, with the opening circle beginning at 9 a.m. From 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Robin McBride Scott will teach how to make paddle stamped coiled pottery from air dry clay. Trail work will also take place all day.
Doyle Blooding will prepare dinner to be served at 6 p.m. and a lecture will follow by Susan Gray of Greenville, Ohio.
On Sunday at 10 a.m., Kent Horine will teach how to make cordage from native dogbane. The closing circle will be at noon.

Spooktacular
Limberlost State Historic Site in Geneva is having a Spooktacular event on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants will get an up close look at live creepy, crawly critters and learn of their wild behaviors.
Children who come dressed in costumes will receive a goodie bag from the Limberlost Swamp monster. There will be Halloween games and hot swamp water and dirt cookies to eat.
The cost is $3 and children three and younger are free. For more information or to register, call Randy Lehman at (260) 368-7428.
Pumpkin train
The Pumpkinliner will leave Connersville Grand Central Station on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m., 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 23, at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.
The train will travel to the pumpkin patch and a hay wagon will be taken to the patch to choose a pumpkin.
