FR's Kahlig reaches milestone

ANSONIA, Ohio — Just four games into his senior season, Fort Recovery High School senior Elijah Kahlig eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark in an 87-44 blowout win Saturday over the Ansonia Tigers.
With 2:04 left in the second quarter, Kahlig hit a field goal to surpass the milestone.
He finished with a game-high 25 points.
The Indians scored 19 or more points in every quarter, rolling to a 45-21 lead at halftime and a 54-30 advantage after three periods.
Fort Recovery (3-1) also had two other players score in double figures as Alex Kaiser notched 12 points and Darien Sheffer added 16. Sheffer also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
Wyatt Gasper had a team-high 16 points for Ansonia, which shot just 37 percent from the field. The Tigers were also 6-of-17 from the free-throw line, while the Indians were 8-of-14.
Vormohr places 63rd
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Jay County High School sophomore Anne Vormohr competed Friday at the USA Swimming Winter National Championships, finishing 63rd out of 90 competitors in the 100-yard backstroke.
Vormohr, who placed third at the IHSAA State Finals in the event last season, finished fourth in her heat. She posted a time of 56.65 seconds to finish two hundredths of a second ahead of Brooke Waugman of the University of Pittsburgh and two hundredths ahead of Michelle Cefal of the University of Tennessee.
The University of California’s Missy Franklin, who won gold medals in two individual events and two relays at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, took the top spot at the event in 52.22 seconds ahead of Golden Bear teammates Rachel Bootsma and Elizabeth Pelton.

Patriots 4-1 at invite
BERNE — Connor Ray and Eric Hemmelgarn went a perfect 5-0 Saturday as the Jay County wrestling team finished 4-1 at the Spencer Haworth Invitational.
The Patriots (7-4) earned victories over Woodlan (63-14), Union City (52-27), Eastbrook (54-15) and host South Adams (51-26). The only loss for Jay County was a close one as it fell 34-33 to Delta.
Hemmelgarn (HWT) improved to 11-0 on the season, while Ray pushed his record to 10-1 in the 126-pound weight class.
Jacob Geesaman (106), Alex Abbott (120), Jesse Finnerty (152), Levi Hummel (160), and Cory Robertson (195/220) all went 4-1 on the day.

Willis scores 29 in loss
MONROEVILLE — Sophomore standout Sydney Willis scored a career-high 29 points Saturday night.
Unfortunately for the Starfires, she got just 21 points from her supporting cast as the South Adams High School girls basketball team dropped its first game of the season, losing to Heritage 56-50.
Willis has been the leading scorer in five games for South Adams (5-1, 1-1 Allen County Athletic Conference), who are now 3-0 at home and 2-1 on the road.
The Starfires led 25-23 at the intermission but could not hold off the surge by the Patriots (4-2, 1-1 ACAC).
Dzejna Ahmetovic scored eight points for South Adams, who also got six points from Alyssa Bluhm, four from Sharon Balsiger and three Cindy In’t Groen.[[In-content Ad]]
