Garden party set for seniors

Seniors, 60 and older,  will enjoy free admission  Wednesday at Minnestrista in Muncie.
Elisabeth’s Garden Tea Party will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in Oakhurst Gardens.
Minnetrista Theatre Preserves will present an interpretive recitation of Elisabeth Ball’s poetry. A tour of the historical Oakhurst home will follow.
Other exhibits on display are “Away From Home: Civil War Letters,” “Abraham Lincoln: Faves of Lincoln” and “Opem Space: Art About the Land.”
“Canning Workshops: Sweet Glazed Carrots” will be held Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This hands-on workshop will show participants how to pressure can carrots and  create a glaze to add extra flavor. The cost is $20 and registration deadline is Sept. 14.
The PBS Program Club at Minnetrista will present the free program  “American Experience: The Panama Canal” on Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. Learn more about the development and impact of the Panama. A discussion will follow.

Museum news
The 10th annual Jay County Heritage Festival is scheduled for Oct. 6 and 7 at the Jay County Historical Museum. The theme is “Jay Countians Go to War — Honoring Those Who Served Our Country.”
The festival will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, the 60th anniversary of the Korean War, the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and the history of World War I and World War II.
