Garrett defeats SA, AC (09/26/07)

BERNE - The Railroaders rode off victorious.

Garrett won the only two contested high school races Tuesday, defeating the South Adams boys cross country team 22-33 and the Adams Central girls 25-30. Adams Central's boys and South Adams' girls did not have enough runners for a team score.

Nathan Rupp and Taylor Turner both turned in second-place finishes to lead the Starfires. Rupp was second in the boys race in 17-minutes, 22 seconds, and Turner took the runner-up slot in the girls race at 22:46.

Rachel Sprunger followed Turner for the SAHS girls in third place at 23:34. Carson Shane was ninth in 24:35, and Anne Lehman finished 11th at 24:57.

Aaron Lehman was the No. 2 runner for the Starfire boys in fourth place at 17:59. Gabe Sprunger followed in eighth at 18:52 along with Justin Sommer (ninth - 19:07) and Chase Sprunger (10th - 19:15).

Woodlan slams SA spikers

The South Adams High School volleyball team fell 25-15, 25-12, 25-13 Tuesday to the visiting Woodlan Warriors.

Hali Feaster led the Starfires in digs and kills with eight and five respectively. Andrea Moser had five kills and three aces, and Karen Bollenbacher finished with four kills and a block.

Jacie Yoder put up 15 assists, and Maranda Potts had five digs.

South Adams also dropped the junior varsity match, 25-9, 25-12.

Star runners take two

The host South Adams middle school cross country teams rolled to victories Tuesday, the girls by a 19-44 score over Adams Central and the boys 24-35.

Hannah Moore led the girls team, winning the race in 12-minutes, 42 seconds.

Lexy Sparks finished second for the Starfires and third overall in 13:16, leading a string of teammates across the finish line.

Kristen Muselman placed fourth in 13:56, Jenna Smith took fifth in 13:57 and Adrianna Teeter finished sixth at 14:15.

Evan Liechty's second-place finish with a time of 11:35 paced the South Adams boys team, and Brody Shane took third in 11:41. Mark Smith crossed the line in 12:42 for fifth place, Joel Hawbaker finished sixth in 12:49 and Brayden Myers was eighth at 13:01.

Jets smash gridders

MONROE - South Adams' middle school football teams struggled Tuesday against the Adams Central Flying Jets, with the eighth graders falling 20-6 and the seventh grade team 23-0.

Marcus Rich had the lone touchdown on the day for the Starfires, scoring on a 40-yard run in the third quarter. He finished with 73 yards rushing on seven carries for the eighth graders (2-3), and Cole Farlow had 10 tackles.

Corey Seffernick completed four passes for 45 yards to lead the seventh grade team (1-3-1). Drew Litwiller and L.J. Moser each ran for 23 yards.
