Gelhaus earns All-Ohio honor

The Associated Press this week named Fort Recovery High School junior Wade Gelhaus to the Division IV All-Ohio first team.
In addition to the All-Ohio award, Gelhaus and teammate Elijah Kahlig were selected as part of Ohio’s top 100 players. Gelhaus, Jared Kahlig, Kylie Kahlig and Kelly Nietfeld all earned northwest district honors from the AP.
Gelhaus, who was named first-team all-district, averaged 19.2 points per game this season while shooting better than 50 percent. He also grabbed 9.5 rebounds per game.
He and sophomore Elijah Kahlig (10.7 ppg), who were selected by the state’s coaches, will take part in the top 100 showcase April 21 at Capitol University in Columbus.
Kylie Kahlig earned third-team all-district honors after averaging 11.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game during her senior season. Jared Kahlig and Nietfeld earn picked up all-district honorable mention.
Murphy to sing
A Jay County High School student will take part in the IHSAA Boys Basketball State Finals Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Senior Maria Murphy will sing the national anthem and “Back Home Again in Indiana” prior to the Class 3A/4A session Saturday evening.
Norwell and Guerin Catholic play in the Class 3A state championship game at 6 p.m. with Pike and Carmel to follow in the Class 4A state title game at 8:45 p.m.
Miles finishes 2nd
Courtney Miles turned in a pair of third-place finishes on the vault in February.
Miles and fellow Jay County gymnasts Halle Hill and Riley Leavell, who train at Mid-America Gymnastics in Marion, competed in the Sweetheart Classic in Indianapolis Feb. 18 and the Walk of Fame Classic in Fort Wayne Feb. 25.
Miles finished second on the vault at both events with scores of 9.2 and 9.3 respectively. She was third in the all-around at the Sweetheart Classic with a 34.7.
Hill finished fourth on the beam with a 9.1 at the Sweetheart Classic, and Leavell was fifth in the all-around at the Walk of Fame Classic with a 32.275.
