Gelhaus powers Fort win

FORT RECOVERY — Wade Gelhaus and Elijah Kahlig didn’t waste any time.
Kahlig hit three 3-pointers in the first three minutes and Gelhaus scored 19 of his game-high 39 points in the opening period. Their effort led the Division IV No. 9 Fort Recovery High School boys basketball team to a 30-10 lead at the end of the first quarter on the way to a 69-55 victory over the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks.
Kahlig hit a pair of 3-pointers to open the scoring, and then Gelhaus hit one of his own. A third triple from Kahlig made the score 12-4 less than three minutes into the game, and then Gelhaus went wild.
The FRHS senior, who is committed to play next season at Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan, racked up the next 16 points for the Indians (17-4). He finished 16-of-29 from the field for his game-high scoring total and also grabbed 12 rebounds.
Kahlig shot an efficient 7-of-11 from the field and hit four 3-pointers as he finished with 18 points and three assists. Mason Evers grabbed six rebounds.
Dane Blumenstock totaled 23 points and six rebounds for Mississinawa Valley. Brandon Byers had 11 points and eight boards.

Junior varsity
Fort Recovery fell into a double-digit deficit in the first half and then struggled in the third quarter in a 47-31 loss to the Blackhawks.
Chase Bruns hit five 3-pointers as he scored a game-high 15 points for the Indians, who trailed 25-15 at halftime. FRHS got outscored 15-6 in the third quarter as Mississinawa Valley pulled away.
Dillon Whitacre and Darien Sheffer followed with five points apiece for the Tribe. Wes Wenning grabbed six rebounds.
Dalton Rinderle finished with 12 points to lead the Blackhawks to the victory. Cayden Cox had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Eighth grade
ROCKFORD, Ohio — The Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team finished as the Midwest Athletic Conference runner-up as it dropped the league championship game 43-27 Saturday to the Versailles Tigers at Parkway.
Micaiah Cox and Caleb Martin paced the Indians with nine points apiece. Fort Recovery finished the season at 14-5.[[In-content Ad]]
