Geneva library hosting events (12/14/06)

The Geneva Public Library will have several events to celebrate the holidays.
On Thursday, Dec. 21, Christmas movies, including "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" will be shown from 1:15 to 3:30 p.m. Children younger than second grade should be accompanied by an adult.
Learn about the traditional celebration of Hanukkah on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m. with the Bill and Jill Brock family. The Brocks will tell about the Jewish celebration and teach the Dreidle game. There will be a Dreidle tournament and snacks.
A Christmas Extravaganza will be Saturday, Dec. 23, with Santa arriving at 9:30 a.m. Community Christmas caroling with Santa will be from 10 to 11 a.m. and cards and ornaments will be made from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. There will be hot chocolate and cookies.
Clifford visits library
Children are invited to enjoy a craft and treat with Clifford, the big red dog, at Fort Recovery Public Library on Tuesday, Dec. 19, from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 22, from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
The Fort Library will also waive overdue fines from Dec. 18 through Jan. 3. In lieu of fines, items for our military troops and non-perishable food items for the food pantry will be collected.
Items needed for the military are tuna (foil pouch), peanut butter crackers, summer sausage/Slim Jims, cheese in a can, juice boxes, protein bars, hard candy, canned meats, baby wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hairbrushes/combs, bath soap, bath tissue, lotions, shampoo, tissues, deodorant, green or black electrical tape, duct tape, flea collars, notebooks, envelopes, pens/pencils, women's needs, small games, playing cards, reading books, phone cards, razors and shaving cream.
The items for the military are needed by Dec. 22 and items for the food pantry are needed by Jan. 3.
Christmas at the museum
Enjoy Christmas at The Jay County Historical Museum on Sunday, Dec. 17, from 1 to 5 p.m. There will be 20 lighted Christmas trees on display and many older decorations.
There will be refreshments and Christmas carols and children may visit with Santa.
This will be the last open house at the museum at 903 E. Main St. until spring. Admission is free.
Paul pages
State Senator Allen Paul invites students in grades six through 12 to take part in the legislative process by serving as a page for a day.
The 2007 session begins Monday, Jan. 8, and continues through Sunday, April 29. Students will need to provide their own transportation to the Statehouse and need to arrive by 8:30 a.m.

Helps with film
Robin Bisel, the daughter of Ron and Marsha Bisel, Portland, recently helped produce and edit the high-definition student film "Ellie and Marianne" at Ball State University. T
The film is based on Jane Austen's book "Sense and Sensibility."
Bisel is a senior at Ball State University majoring in telecommunications and minoring in Spanish and film.
Performs at Ball State
Erik Wentz, the son of Tommy and Beverly Wentz of Portland, recently performed in "Rhythm and Soul (A Passion for Latin)" at Ball State University.
"Rhythm and Soul" was presented by the Ball State Dance Theatre adn showcased traditional and contemporary styles of Latin dance.
Wentz is a senior at Ball State, majoring in dance.
Dean's list
The following students have been named to the dean's list at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute.
Tony Homan, the son of Rick and Cathy Homan from Fort Recovery, is a senior majoring in computer engineering.
Shaun Wendel, the son of Donald and Beth Wendel from Monroe, is a freshman majoring in mechanical engineering.
Ian and Mitchell Thomas, sons of Jo and Randy Thomas from Pennville, are sophomores majoring in computer engineering.[[In-content Ad]]
