Geography winners announced (1/18/05)
Taking Note
The winner of East Jay Middle School’s geography bee was eighth grade student Jarrett Tomey, son of Richard and Susan Tomey, Portland.
The runner-up was Michael Ault, also in the eighth grade, son of Melvin and Jean Ault, Portland.
POSTER WINNER
Dakota Hicks, a fourth grade student at Del Rio Elementary School in Del Rio, Tenn., won third place in the national AMVETS Americanism Poster Contest and won a $100 savings bond.
He is the grandson of Jerry and Lorrine Hicks, Portland, and great-grandson of Rose Helm, Dunkirk.
Hicks placed first in the local contest and first in the state of Tennessee for his poster of a flag and an eagle landing on a mountain.
His parents are Kelly Hicks, Del Rio, and Thomas Hicks, Muncie.
WORKSHOP
Arts Place, Inc. and its web site venture, IndianaArts.org are co-hosting a workshop for visual and performing artists on Monday, Jan. 31, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie.
The cost to attend Guerilla Marketing for Artists is $5 and handouts will be provided. The workshop is intended to help artists improve business and web skills, promote their art, find income opportunities and network with fellow artists.

TOBACCO FREEDOM
A series designed to educate and support your decision to be free of tobacco will be held each Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at The First Church of the Nazarene, 1515 Clark Ave., Bluffton.
For more information about the series or to register, call the Bluffton Regional education department at (260) 919-3806. A $1 donation is requested for each class.
The series is sponsored by the American Cancer Society, Bluffton Regional Medical Center, JOLT and the Wells County Health Dept.
