Giving circle taking applications

Taking Note

The Women's Giving Circle of The Portland Foundation is accepting grant applications to help non profit organizations provide programming to youth and families. Grants will be awarded in $200 to $1,000 increments.

Applications are available at The Portland Foundation, 112 E. Main St. or at portlandfoundation.org and are due by Aug. 25 at 5 p.m.

Geneva library

Several programs are available this summer at the Geneva Library.

Tuesday Club will meet each week from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for children in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Food and Fun will be held each Wednesday for kindergarten through eighth grade students to work in the library's backyard garden.

Story times for preschoolers are each Friday at 10:15 a.m.

Dairy team

The Jay County FFA Dairy team competed at the state level at Purdue University and placed 25th. The team consists of Trey Auker, Shelby Addington, Greg Owen and Ben Dirksen and the coach is Cody Linville.

Dean's list

Area students made the dean's list at Wabash College in Crawfordsville for the spring 2010 semester.

Kaleb Hemmelgarn, a sophomore, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Hemmelgarn, Portland.

Austin Flynn, a junior, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Flynn, Redkey.

Cody Grady, a senior, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Grady, Redkey.

Adam Garringer, Portland, made the dean's list at Hanover College for the winter-spring 2010 term. He is the son of Mike Garringer and Carmen Garringer.
