Golfers heading to regional

Local roundup

Evan Mathias and Cal Clouser will head to Yorktown with hopes of improving on their efforts from last season.
The Jay County and South Adams high school golfers will compete as individuals Friday in the regional tournament hosted by Muncie Central at The Players Club.
The top five individuals not on the three advancing teams will move on to the state finals. Over the last four seasons, players have had to shoot 75 or better in order to advance.
Mathias, a Patriot junior, will be making his second trip to the regional after posting an 82 in the sectional tournament at Timber Ridge Golf Course. He finished with an 84 in the regional a year ago.
The Starfires’ Clouser is also headed to the regional for the second time after advancing last season when he played for Norwell.

Portland ties Mariners
CELINA, Ohio — The Portland Rockets finished in a 2-2 tie with the host Grand Lake Mariners on Wednesday when the game was called after 10 innings.
The Rockets, now 2-2-1, scored both of their runs in the second inning after singles from Geoff Bowers, Chris Miller and Dalton Tinsley loaded the bases. Logan Hug brought Bowers home with a ground out, and Miller scored on an RBI single by Ben Smith.

Celina tied the game in the sixth, and it was called after the 10th with the Mariners citing a need to conserve its pitching staff for league play.
South Adams High School graduate Dan Bollenbacher started and tossed four no-hit innings while striking out four batters. Eathan Daggett, Travis Gray, Junior Santos and Dylan Brammer all threw in relief.
Miller had half of the Rockets’ six hits.

Dehoff leads Ponderosa
Justin Dehoff’s RBI single capped a seven-run sixth inning for Ponderosa on Wednesday, lifting it to a 22-17 victory over All Circuit Electric in Portland Junior League Rookie baseball.
Pak-A-Sak won Wednesday’s other game 8-5 over Fisher Meats.
The battle of undefeated squads was tied at 15 through five innings before Ponderosa came up big in the sixth. Each of the first four All Circuit batters reached base in the bottom of the frame before Ponderosa (6-0) escaped with the win.
Dehoff finished 4-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run, six RBIs and four runs. Sam Myers had four hits, four RBIs and three runs.
Dusty Pearson paced All Circuit (5-1) with four hits, four RBIs and three runs.
Kenny Carducci had two hits, three RBIs and a run to pace Pak-A-Sak. Zach McAbee hit an inside-the-park home for Fisher.[[In-content Ad]]
